Thinking of going back to Win 7

Before I begin I would like to say that my Pc is in no way slow or doesn't have enough ram, I use Windows 8 Pro Build 9200.

So I have been using Win 8 for about 4 weeks, I have gotten used to it's layout and everything.

However there is one thing that I am seriously getting angry about and that's the fact that it's so unstable.

What I mean by this is if a program on my Pc stops responding for what ever reason the whole OS stops responding, as in I have to wait 3 mins for task manager to open up and also tell me it's not responding.

I eventually have to restart my Pc because the whole OS locks up and there isn't a way to simply close the program that has stopped responding.

Sometimes it responds a little and I am able to close the offending program but then even when this is done the OS feels sluggish and never fully recovers.

When I had Windows 7 this wasn't the case at all, the program can easily be closed and the system would recover.

Luckily I only paid R138 for the Windows so it isn't a great loss to me to downgrade, but I must say that if you have Windows 7 I personally don't see a reason to get Windows 8.

I can not understand why it's so unstable compared to Windows 7. :confused:
 
I tried Windows 8 twice on my pc, but in the end, just did a clean wipe and installed Windows 7 Home Premium again.

It's just fabulous & now I love my pc even more! :love:

My Starcraft II plays like a dream, and next week I will be adding Heart of the Swarm. Cannot wait!

My best guess is Microsoft created Windows 8 to make people appreciate Windows 7 more. :)

*If I can give you great advice, do your backup, wipe hard drive and install Windows 7 again ASAP. ;)
 
I like Windows 8, I really do and I hate to say it, but I will. Windows 7 is better.

I had Windows 8 running since the Developer Preview and converted it to the RTM and rarely had issues. I used it for quite a number of months.

The problem is that Windows 8 needs an active internet connection to be fully utilized. Which I don't have. I run off prepaid 3G/HSDPA, so I see no reason to waste bandwidth/data on it.

That said. I manage a range of Server 2012 systems as well and the whole Metro deal is just getting in my way.

I find myself reverting to pin most used software and revert to the Desktop view in any case.

So my suggestion to MS would be, release a Service Pack or Hotfix/Release Upgrade and let us choose to have Metro and Desktop as current, or allow us to choose to have all the great benefits of 8 with the same look as 7, Start Menu, Desktop, no Metro.

Windows 8 and 2012 uptake will be much more than it currently is, is my belief.

I'm booting into Windows 7 now since two weeks ago and I'm not in the mood to go back to 8 in any way, shape or form, I have 2012 to bug me daily with that.

It works for Windows Vista, 7, 8, Server 2008 R2, and Server 2012.

Thanks kingrob, but I'm not going to install that on live Servers at work.
I know that one can boot straight into Desktop as well, but I won't take chances to install it either. I have a huge responsibility and quite a few 00000's to protect, so I can't take the chance :p

Can always play around with it in a VM?
 
I find Win8 stable and faster than Win7. And can now run metro apps in a window using a $5 utility (which will probably come in Blue anyway).
 
I regret upgrading my laptop to Win 8 myself (also got it on the R138 special). I dont have much issue with performance, but its definitely not on par with Win7. My biggest issue is that even with the latest win8 software for my HP MFP, it keeps losing connection to all the MFP functions... Printing is fine, but forget all the other stuff like scanning and faxing...
 
All I say to all of the Windows 8 users - wipe clean and install Windows 7 as soon as you can.

You'll be so glad you did. :)

*Oh, and then you don't have to Google the shutdown icon and Start8 any longer, it's right in front of you. :D

On recent visits to Makro, Dion and Incredible I only saw Windows 7 retail available. A couple of PC's had 8 bundled though.
 
I haven't had issues with Windows 8 at all hey. Been running it since the day it came out and I'm loving it.
Two days ago I restarted after... I think it was some updates, but the uptime was 18 days and not a single program had crashed.
 
Bought a copy but didn't install it. I'll probably end up install in a couple of months when they sorted out the worst bugs.

Well hopefully stability gets improved else I'm going back to Windows 7 for now though I think I'll try to stay on Windows 8 and give it a chance. But if I have to restart my Pc 3 more times I'm done.
 
Windows 8 still going strong, no above mentioned problems, although I use Pokki start menu without any other annoying apps.
 
Just had the issue with the black screen with Windows 8. Metro was nice at first, but I grew to hate it.

I formatted my hard drive and installed Win7 HP, best choice ever!

I will wait and see what the Blue update has to offer, then decide whether on upgrading or not.
 
The funniest comments in this thread must be :

1. Windows 8 is easier to use than Windows 7 (a tablet interface is easier to use on a desktop, yeah right)

2. Windows 8 is faster than Windows 7 (because it's stripped down, dummy! It's basically Windows 7 basic in front of you, duh!)
