Don't get a 1050ti, the budget allows for a 1060, he'll be glad he got that trust me.
+1 on what ponder said...check 1050Ti vs 1060 and you will see the difference.

Sigh guys my friend just gave me some bad news now. See he lives with his Grandma and she's not keen on online purchasing (rolls eyes) so it seems we just gonna go with takealot because of the cash on delivery. Does Wootware and Rebeltech do cash on delivery?
To be honest I struggle to see how you can fit a R4000 GPU into a R10000 PC. Maybe if he dropped his CPU down to a Pentium instead of an i5 or i7

Just find out about what TakeAlot's maximum cash on delivery policy is, because they might not be so keen on you handing over R10000 to them. I don't know but I would check it out before you assume it will work.
Wootware more than likely will not offer cash on delivery. But depending on where you live, you can just go to their offices instead.
Is his grandma paying for it?
I'd get a i3 7100 and up the graphics card, if it was me.
Trust me it can be done with that i7 from PotterH/mineaway
See my other builds in this forum for detailed build guides.
Hi there, I'm putting together a gaming PC for a friend with a budget of R10000. I managed to find some decent parts on Takealot and the focus was on getting the best CPU and GPU within the budget. I made concessions with the rest of the parts. I was wondering if anyone here could help me out and optimize this rig? Here's the parts:
Motherboard - MSI Intel H81m-P33 Socket 1150 -R839
Intel Core i5 4690 - R4079
GTX 1050 Ti - R2789
8GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM - R919
600W PSU - R889
Western Digital 1TB HDD - R749
Chassis - R609
Total - R10873
A bit over the budget but my friend said going a bit over is okay and that at most he'll go 1-2k over the budget. Anyway, is that build decent enough? It's not meant to max out games obviously, he just wants a decent gaming PC to be able to play at relatively nice settings at 1080p.
Yep, people are soo eager to jump onto "get the bestest mostest cores ever !!11one11eleven!!!" because you need it for 1080p gaming..... right. As the OP said, midrange cpu will be more than enough for anything at 1080p. The 1050ti though will struggle in some games at max 1080p settings.
He'll be replacing the GFX card before that CPU in the future.
Edit: OP also mentioned its for gaming, not <whatever else that needs massive amounts of cores to power it>
Check the PC build thread and some of my other posts here. Currently on a phone so can't post detailed info here until Telkom installs my new line. Besides wootware also look at rebeltech, you can get a asrock mb for just over r700, for the PSU look at the corsair vs450 its plenty for what you need. 2 dimm slots are fine as you can go up to 32gb of ram.
Nah he is paying for it himself. His grandma just won't allow it because she's old school. The two of us are like 21 so living with our family, there's still some ground rules you know.
I wanted to initially go i3 and a 1060 but games we are already at that point where games make good use of quad cores.
Why is this the second time now we have a thread with hugely inflated prices from Takealot and the poster saying: "But they will only allow buying from Takealot"
I recall a similar thread not too long ago with a guy who's brother is paying and will only pay if it's takealot.
That is utterly retarded... Why would anyone pay through their neck for something they can get from a legitimate source for WAAAAAY Less?
Wootware is by far the best PC online store in SA (personal opinion) and I know I'm not the only one on here who thinks so. By far, 1000x better than Takealot![]()

At 21, aren't you old enough to make decisions like this? About what to do with your own money?
Look its his family and his business. The problem here is that, while the grandma has good intentions (she wants to keep her grandson from being scammed), she doesn't actually know enough to evaluate whether TakeAlot is safe to buy from or if Wootware is safe to buy from. No offense to her, but she just has no idea. By being dogmatic about it, her grandson will probably get a worse deal.
