Los Angeles has some horrific crimes almost on par with SA, so does certain areas of NY, Chicago, Florida, UK (Leeds, Liverpool etc.),

VERY true, a large part of the crime in SA is either unreported by the victims or magically dissapears from the dockets...

I agree, SA has some of most vicious & malicious crimes around the world. Some of the South American countries aren't far behind though. Ross Kemp on YouTube did a show on it.

US, Canada, UK, Belgium, have reported cases of some really shocking, vicious, malicious & well just jaw dropping accounts of crime, but they're not of the magnitude of SA in the last 2-3 years.

This country needs the death penalty or some serious hand chopping rules to discourage crime.

The terms "first world countries" and "third world countries" you guys are using, are very much outdated.

Some years ago those terms were replaced with "developed countries" and "developing countries".

Even those terms have been left behind and the current internationally accepted terms are "emerged economies" and "emerging economies".

Not trying to sound clever, but since we move in a global society, it helps if we keep up with these terms.

When I lived in the US, Los Angeles to be exact, I never felt threatened or in any kind of danger, the difference with these countries is that there are areas where there ios little or no crime. Crime in SA is everywhere. There are no areas that are safe completely. That is the difference.

As i have said numerous times now on this forum, In Aus or the UK the stats are reported well and are acurate, unlike SA where they are very under reported and changed to suite the governments claims that crime is coming down!!! If you cant trust and rely on the police for self security, how can they be trusted for reporting accurate crime figures? Never rely on the SA crime stats!!! Why is a tracker device for cars unheard of in Aus or NZ? Why does nobody here know what a gorilla lock is? In all my years here in NZ I have never seen a gorilla grip on a car, let alone a gear lock. Not once have I heard of a carjacking in NZ.

Research your posts before posting garbage, New Zealand and many other first world countries have "petty crime" as part of their statistics. Dishonesty for example, something which if measured in SA the entire government would be guilty of, let alone every single person in the street.

But yes, crime is everywhere as Lacelot says and I have to agree with him on this, but its just the frequency of it which is very different between SA and other first world countries. In NZ if somebody is murdered it makes the evening news for the entire country. Unlike SA where people just down the road from you can be wiped out and it does not even make the back page of the local paper. The same amount of people are murdered per day in SA as an entire year in NZ, those are the stats that speak for themselves.

The term "First World" refers to countries that are capitalist, which are technologically advanced, and whose citizens have a high standard of living.. Third World is a name given to nations that are generally considered to be underdeveloped economically.

Underdeveloped economy, eg ZIM, SA, Pakistan.
