Hi guys. Didnt own a box before, streaming was connecting laptop to tv with kodi. Got the lit yesterday and so far so good. The interface feels good, looks like the mi box interface (android tv), download apps from the playstore quickly and moving between apps feels quick enough (some people might say they notice lag but for novice like me i dont really notice anything). So far only watched through showmax and mx player (hard drive connected). Going to set up a plex network this weekend with the study room pc. The airmouse moves like i want it to move. The device takes about 30sec to boot (wont die waiting 30sec). I have noticed there is a small hole on the remote for the mic but does not seem to work. Not sure if this will work later but i dont tend to ask my phone or laptop to do things for me, i press buttons myself (old school).
Not the most in depth review but for the other new comers on here, for R1000 or R45 pm this device does what it needs to do and im pretty happy with it.... no to show my wife how it works

Hi guys
I got the Device yesterday.. did some testing and had multiple issues.. Note i have a 4K TV with HDR
The device sets up well and the interface runs fine at launch. Then issues start. Moving through the menus the system becomes laggy. When i got to TV settings, the app crashes and refuses to open again, have to reboot to resolve that. On my first attempts to resolve the TV app crash, the language on my device changes to Chinese/Korean after restarting the device. Had to switch of simple link on my TV to resolve. Then the TV app still crashed, had to change port on my TV as i had it connected to a port which supported HDR 10 bit. Thereafter able to use menus with out crash. I assume the software has bugs and not hardware issue.. But my device didnt work well when HDR was enabled as the screen kept going of and coming on (blinking) as it was trying to render correctly when i was flipping through the menu. I think it kept switching HDR on and off. Still it lags in menus and settings but much better
When i switched on the device first time i had netflix preinstalled.. After i factory reset the device due to the language issue, netflix is gone.. tried installing via google playstore gets me error incompatible with my device.. Will have to sideload the app.
Installed file commander from playstore to load APK's. I downloaded and installed Aptoid app store apk. Updates appeared for 7 apps, Youtube, Android tv launcher and 5 google keyboard settings.. updated them all, restarted and the android launcher worked abit smoother.
I loaded Kodi from google playstore v17.4 but didnt test any streaming. i launched and the interface was buttery smooth (wonder why the tv os isnt that good). will test tonight
Loaded dstv now and it works. Albeit it doesnt want to up the bitrate to HD for sport channels. think its stuck on 360p. changed the quality to high in settings, made no difference.. will test again.. To go full screen, you have use the air mouse on the remote to click on the full screen button.
sideloaded speedtest and it doesnt work in landscape.. only portrait.. hard to move around with mouse as everything is inverted..
The wifi speed is not so great, connecting to 5Ghz AC.. my phone managed higher download speeds... but it might be driver issue..
Will update later as i test further.. but so far, rather wait for software to be fixed first then buy.. or buy get Xiaomi

Get Set Orientation app from the Play Store to have your app in landscape.
Wow your experience is alot different than mine. Def didnt have language issue and netflix wasnt preloaded on mine, I had to download it.
Btw got mine from Table View. Maybe Joburg boxes are faulty?

Are you also using a 10-bit, HDR, 4K tv?
(Just trying to figure out if it's the unit or his specific tv.)

I've been bitten twice by Telkom's "zero-rated" offerings.
Could be the tv as mine is a normal led, full hd, non smart tv.
The other thing thats strange is that dstv now app did not appear on my play store, was planning to side load it but you mentioned you have it on yours.

"Zero rated" , "unlimited" , "uncapped" , etc are fkcing misleading. I don't think that ANY South African telco applies these terms correctly (as per dictionary or common-sense" definition).
The telcos are a bunch of lying bstards.
