Hehe. 35-minute call just ended with Indian-sounding scamsters. Caller ID masked.
The operation is somewhat more sophisticated than in previous calls - seem to have a classic two-tier "support", working in teams.
The calling agent throws out the hook (view "errors" in Event Viewer) and once the victim is hooked, transfers the call to a "technician" who gets me to download the nasty bits.
I pretended to go along with all this, very slowly and laboriously, and when the "fix" was ostensibly installed he asked me to read what's on the screen.
At this point it was getting a bit tedious and I wanted to go, so I said a message came up on the screen informing me that "the IP address of the caller has been recorded and transmitted to the Microsoft Fraud Detection Unit". That fetched him, and he asked me to repeat that. He sounded perplexed.
He asked me what version of Windows I was running and I said Windows 11. He seemed even more perplexed.
I said there's a button "Click OK for more", so he asked me to click that and read what's on the screen.
I then informed him that the system has a warning with a big Indian chili graphic, saying "Windows 11 has detected that the downloaded software is intended to compromise your computer. The source server details have been recorded and the server marked as a malware source. The caller's IP address has been reported to the Internet Police for investigation. Please inform the caller that his life-form is lower than shark-sch1t" or words to that effect.
After a five-second pause he ended the call.
