This is why Chinese is hard

I'm sure there must be a logical progression behind it though. English is a terrible language too, but from what i've heard, french is worse :p

If you start learning it as a young child, any language is possible to master. The problem comes as a grown-up when you have already "settled" on 1 or 2 languages and then come across a new one which differs a lot in terms of structure and usage.

I would love to learn French.

I tried French...didn't get far.

The declensions make it very difficult. Same thing for German and Latin. There is no system and its either 1. Born with it or 2. Rote memorization. FTL

Ok so which variant is this then mr smarypants? Mandarin, Cantonese , wu, yue, min, xiang or some of the other regional ones? Its all greek to me

Im sure white is also very difficult to understand/grasp. Mandarin and Cantonese are completely different languages. Any language will look like gibberish if you havent studied it or spent a lot of time with people who speak it.

Ok. I'm sorry I didn't start the thread with the funny pic by explaining which dialect of the the spoken language from the country called China it is represented in. FS people its a funny little example of a quirky language quirk. Geez. Apsergers seems to be running amok here.

I found German not too hard to learn ... it may be because my Afrikaans is very good.

Initially you have to focus hard and memorize a lot of things as you said, but if you continuously speak the langugage, it does get easier.

German is very pronounceable and there is a structure, its very similar to Afrikaans which is probably the best structured language to my knowledge :)
