This is why DStv hiked its prices

Someone has to pay for those overpaid sport"stars" exorbitant salaries. I'm a football fan. But still, even tommy smith and co and Soccernet were questioning why Messi is getting something like E1m a week. How people who are battling to make ends meet go and watch this pampered overpaid lot is beyond me. I mean give the sports guys a decent living salary but what they're getting is ridicilous.

I have never used DSTV, and never plan to, but isn't this increase a standard year on year increase in business terms?

People are willingly paying it.

So basically we have to pay to for the upkeep of Multichoice's monopoly on sports broadcasts, which is the only thing keeping the floodgates closed.

This is why the chicken crossed the road

But really its all good and well increasing prices when the Rand depreciates, however in that period while the rand was appreciating, costs still increased.

And that is the problem today, we see it with food (prices increase when fuel price increases however never decreases when fuel decreases)

Are you a cord cutter? Tommy Smyth and co were axed from DSTV along with the ESPN channel years ago.

Easy, sell some of those rights and compete on service :D

Simple, drop the Exclusive Sports! SABC hasn't got the money to take them up and Etv could probably only muster up enough cash to buy in a few... The result is a huge drop in costs as the sports concerned will have to settle for what's on offer! This is what happened in the UK between Sky, BT and ITV.

It might also allow some sports to be seen by the terrestrial viewers!

They still earn less then the american sport stars. The market decides and people are willing to pay for it.

This.

It is very expensive to ensure one obtains exclusive broadcasting rights. Come now, Joe Public, please understand: how else are we gonna maintain a stranglehold on the last thing keeping you paying us exorbitant amounts of money?

Seriously, some level-headed citizens, hey!
