This is why DStv hiked its prices

This is bull ****!!!!!! Dstv buys cheap Australian rubbish and blame their sharp price hike on the high U.S dollar. The Australian currency is not as strong as the US dollar. They under estimate their customers.

I agree JinM. If they drop the exclusive rights to certain sports their costs should decrease significantly. But will they? I think not.

Looks like they trying to encourage people to rather take easyview then cancel outright.

Scraping bottom of the barrel.
They pee'ed off a few folk, myself included, who had downgraded to easyview years ago just to keep their decoders active when they hiked the subscription by 35% last year.

Seems the chickens came home to roost and the majority of us canceled :D

I just read they will do kess exclusive deals which means more content on Netflix!!!

As a Naspers shareholder I am disappointed (not really - I hope they unbundle at some point in time so I can get rid of Media24 and Dstv shares - they don't make a blib) but as a Netflix customer I am very, very happy.

ciao dstv

This is how I see the math. Dstv probably buys. 20 or 30 shows every 3 months. Thats because most shows are repeated for minimum 3 months. That makes it 4 purchases per year of absolute rubbish.

They sometimes play 3 good movies simultaneously on different channels, all in one day and those shows hardly show up again. Its obvious, the content manager is smoking his 3 week old socks or he has no clue as to whats popular when it comes to entertainment. Hint: julia roberts is hotter than rea perlman, cheers is hotter than bekker, etc.

Movies are so non mainstream that I have difficulty identifying the actors in movies from my era. Why, bcos the movies are low budget crap with actors you never heard off. It cant be all that expensive as most shows are outdated or not relevant to Sa viewing dynamics.

We dont need to inundate kids with immoral shows like "ex on the beach" etc. How many times have you watched 'oceans eleven on tcm'? , no its not the one with all the 'a list' actors. Its from the 70's. I counted about 35 times.

Now if all their channels are repeating cow dung every 3 months, how exhorbitant can that cost be?

I am only willing to agree on the exclusive sports shows. So split it from the bouquet and let me purhase it as a stand alone. The rest you can show to your family. Theres very little to gain there.
I love the content on natgeo, discw, realtv but there too, 5 good shows every 3-4 months. I can get that on netflix.

Go bullcrap the uneducated SA masses, not me.

What if i told you they do it just because they can

Are you a cord cutter? Tommy Smyth and co were axed from DSTV along with the ESPN channel years ago.

Yip its gone. Soccernet was one of the last shows I didn't miss on DSTV. 2/3 years ago

I usually paid my subscription on the 25th for the coming month. This month I sort of forgot to do it, but then I saw the amount they're increasing with earlier this week.

Not a ph0k!!!

Ironically this morning when I left the TV was still working (I know because out of habit I turn the TV on for the kids before they leave for school).

Anybody know how long they'll take to shove it? I've been planning on cancelling it for months now, Netflix, Hulu and YouTube suits my family just fine. Only thing which I'm still scratching my head about is the rugby and cricket, but I'm sure there'll be a way.
