Guys,

I'll be doing my CCNA and CCNP during January and February.

My problem is that I need some hands on days where I would like to be one site with someone working on Cisco routers and switches. I would be getting there on my own and would just like to help and learn a bit more hands on for no payment ofc :p.

If there is anyone that can allow me to shadow them will working on the above pls would you be so kind as to PM me?
 
Thought you were doing an instructed course in Cape Town? If so, then they will have the equipment that you need; routers, switches, hubs, managed switches, cabling, host PCs, etc.

That is the idea. I might just end up doing it online. Thus the reason for this thread. If I do decide to do it online I will need to have some interactions with these devices. Now if I can't come right I'll just fly down to CPT and do it instructor lead.
 
Who are you going to do it online with? Why do you have to fly to Cape Town? You can self study a CCNA, there are some very good tools out there....

Doing one of 2 routes via 2KO in CPT.

Either Instructor lead or Online. But with the same place.
 
OK cool. Honestly, I think that R3k for an online course is a LOT of money. I used to work for a company that offered online training and I just could not see the value.

Boson NetSim, and other simulators, have most of the functionality of each router. They also have more types of routers and switches. 5 days spent at a course will unfortunately not teach you how IOS. To learn it you need to set up a lab, either using routers or a Router simulator, and just work at setting up different configurations until its second nature.

Either way you will need to get your hands on a simulator, perhaps try that first and if you get stuck then go for a course. Feel free to PM me if you would like to get hold of some of the software simulators....

As I explained to someone in my PM.

The biggest factor here is the difference between doing it online and doing Instructor lead. Online course - R 8k for both CCNA and CCNP. Instructor lead with a flight to Cape Town and lodging would set me back close to R 40k.

So I will be paying R 32k just for me to experience the devices first hand. Which I feel is a blunt deal. I might as well just ask a few favours and have the same exposure to these devices for the cost of my fuel to get there only.

I'll just have to go check through the course material as to what it is exactly that I need to get exposure to. The courses explain everything pretty good. However it's always best to have a picture in your head of these devices and how they look/work and so forth.
 
Makes sense. Just note that the simulator is identical to the to actual device, barring a few features....
