2010 even better? Maybe time for me to upgrade at home then, 'cause they ain't upgrading in the office any time soon.

I've just gone back to Outlook 2010 after years of Thunderbird. Still getting used to the interface, but very impressed by the speed

To answer an earlier query: backing up e-mails, settings and more is an absolute cinch using the small freebie download, Mozbackup. I just migrated everything to a new computer in minutes! And your emails are readable as plain text anyhow if you want to copy the manual way, so you never get stuck having to have a proprietary program and format installed, e.g. Outlook.

Yes, you can: Just backup your profile folder to somewhere and point %AppData%\Thunderbird\profiles.ini to point to the restored profile folder after a re-install. I keep my profile folder in a Truecrypt archive, and share my Thunderbird mailbox between Windows Linux (dual boot, and VM).

IMHO Thunderbird is awesome and MS Outlook is bulky and slow (I use Outlook at work).

or start with the --ProfileManager flag and point to the directory with the profile
