Yea, shocking.

Never mind ripping us off, why ripoff the freaking Brits as well?
We want them to continue to tour with their teams, not go home broke and dejected.

What we want :
- Full stadiums.
Full stadiums create :
- Atmosphere.
Sold out ticket offices create :
- Demand.
Demand creates :
- Opportunity. (To perhaps raise the prices a wee bit)

What we don't want :
- Empty stadiums.
Empty stadiums create :
- Waste.

Somebody please show this simple logic to the morons.

I was shocked to see the grand stands filled with red shirts in Durban. There were definitely more Lions supporters than Boks supporters. At R 1100 ea, there's no way I can afford two ticket for 80 mins.

Just remember SARU set aside around 10 000 - 20 000 tickets for the B&I lions supporters IIRC.

Also for them to pay 80-85 pounds for a ticket to an event that happens once every 12 years is nothing....

Sad but true the SA rugby supporters are being screwed :(

I managed to get a package for 10 of us: all food, all drinks, transport to and from Loftus for R1k each. I thought it was a bit steep until I found out the usual price.

So I'm off to watch the rugby this weekend...:D

R1.1 k

I don't even watch rugby, but I have to admit that is a ridiculous price.

That's pathetic. I paid less for a milan derby ticket a year or so ago and there I was paying in euros.

IPL got it right and offered more value for money. R80 for a double header compared to R1100 for one game which last 80 minutes.

IPL never wanted to make money via entrance, they made money via tv rights.

Well with loads of british fans 1100 is not actually a lot of money for them but yea Sa's are getting screwed once again.

So SARU can make money from TV rights too. They are just a bunch of guys looking for an easy way to make money. To negotiate contracts with major networks, takes time and effort. SARU are not interested in spending time doing anything that really matters to the average Rugby supporter. I am not a die hard rugby fan, and I personally think if ticket prices were cheaper, I would definitely go for a match. With prices so steep, 90% of South Africans cannot afford it and with the current state of the financial world, people have better things to do with 1k. SARU are losing out on the average South African who wants to support his/her country. Only the really rich or die hard fans are going to go for the games and interest among average supporters will dwindle.

// I am surprised by the amazement at the prices - of course SARU were going to screw us. Its simple they knew folks would pay. The only was fans could ever illustrate unhappiness was to ensure a test staduim is 100% empty.

Do you see that happening?

Didn't think so.

^ I think if there weren't all the Lions supporters, the stadiums would be nearly 100% empty.

Thats the thing. A B&I Lions tour doesn't happen every 12 years. It happens every 4 years - they just happen to come to South Africa every 12 years, because we are not as close to Aus and NZ as they are to each other.

It's a sad day when one cannot afford to support ones own team in your own country. Sort of defeats the whole idea doesn't it?

Why do they bother to bring them here?:D
