I would say going through the motion of checking the bag for the sake of the cctv camera focussed on the exit. There is no way they can glance inside a bag and then tick off all the items on the slip the way they do.

Agree with you. So the customers are being charged higher prices to cover the checkers pay for no real benefit to the employer or customers.

Sometimes if they are particularly useless or unfriendly I would just ignore them.

Only once had I had one run after me.

These guys can be a big annoyance. Gone to the one builders once where the tills are position such that the Slip check guy can see everything being rung up and placed in the packets. I've gone to the till right in front of him, items being scanned while he watches and then ask to see the slip and inside the bags, I just said no. You just watched everything being scanned and packaged.
A bit of an irritation and most of the time they don't really check anything, just mark and stamp

Yip. I asked the oke, WTF ? You just saw me pay for it. Now i've got a new move, give him the slip and walk away.
And no..... i don't need the slip for a refund on screws, washers etc.
