Basically it seems like the userstats page is working on the assumption that 1000MB=1GB, whereas antibody's application (correctly) uses 1024MB=1GB. In terms of bytes this means that you should comfortably exceed 5 000 000 000 bytes before it reaches a true 5GB

The antibody app is right of course! :D ;)

AFAIK most ISPs measure 1GB as 1024*1024*1024 = 1,073,741,824 bytes, so 5GB = 5,368,709,120 bytes

Axxess obviously do it their way to save themselves bandwidth.

I went through this same story before I cancelled with Axxess. For me they put 4000000000 bytes on the 4GB account but the 3GB accounts got the proper amount of 3 x 1024Meg.

All of the other ISPs use the 1024 Meg story, it's only Axxess that does not. This works out to about 73Meg per GB of lost bandwidth.

I actually got extremely p..d off as I got no response to my email detailing where the Axxess usage report differed from the SAIX one. Apart from the 400....0 as opposed to 4 x 1024 Meg story, there was about 110 Meg worth of traffic that appeared on the Axxess usage report from their web site which never appeared on the SAIX.

What do WA and other ISPs sell as a gig?

Are you sure that WA does not use the 1000mb story as oppsed to the 1024 for a gig?

Is Axxess the only ISP that is doing this?

If that is the case they should be banned from advertising here!! Starting to sound like a telecom company that I know.

So in a nutshell I a losing an extra 7% bandwidth very single month that I am using Axxess. 7 % is a lot when you are trying to stay uncapped at the end of the month.

Does anyone at Axxess care to comment on this issue?
 
We have used the SAIX division of 1000 till now since we resell SAIX bandwidth.
But due to customer demand we have decided that as from the 1st of June this will be 1024.
We will also be using a 24hour timeout as from the 1st of June.
If you have any more comments on how we can improve our services please let us know.
The input from the myADSL community is always appreciated.

I could not confirm this on your website.

Taking it as an unconfirmed rumour till proven otherwise
 
Technically, 1GB = 1000MB, just like 1KM = 1000M.
It's binary that screws everything around.

A new notation was introduced a few years ago to differentiate (for example) 1000MB from 1024MB - the inclusion of an "i". So 1GB = 1000MB, but 1GiB = 1024MiB (and 1TiB = 1024GiB, etc)

You should all be used to this since hard drive manufacturers do it as well : e.g. a 160GB drive only gives 149GiB of usable space.

BUT, ultimately Telkom started all this bandwidth measuring shyte and so (naturally) they went for the smaller measurement of 1GB = 1000MB .....

Actually, I think the Telskum use the 1024MB option. It's only Axxess that don't.

That may be what they said but TelkomInternet along with all of the other seem to use the 1024 version.

The reason why I am posting is that I had exactly the same problem in the past.

As you can see from the thread, one of the other ISP's seemed to indicate that SAIX sells Gigs in 1024 Meg blocks.

Looks like you just like smearing there name or something.

well ok to tell the truth ive been with axxess for 6 months

d/loaded the saix log tool tonight looks cool

will keep it in my back pocket to seee how the new stats page correlates to the stats from saix. I also export a copy in case the hellscum decide to do me one over

REMEMBER I AM PATIENTLY WAITING FOR THEM TO SLIP, AND WHEN THEY DO .....
