Time to leave openweb

Finding the right product is a bit of a challenge. Everyone seems to have different needs, budgets, etc so you need to find an uncapped product that fits your needs the best.

I'm going capped next month, and I think I'm going to supplement it with a cheap uncapped account and use the two together to get the best results.

Cancelled OW already, but I have to wait until the end of June to be rid of them.... *mutter*.. this calender month cancellation thing is complete bollocks in my opinion.

Anyone got any tips to get out of being locked in for June with OW?

I really hate having to be forced in to staying a month longer than what I want to!

Is there no option to downgrade your account to a 1GB capped one? That's how people did it during the Mweb mass exodus.

Please send one posthaste! Make sure it gets here before end of June lol :)

Also, how the hell do I cancel, only thing I see is remove billing profile... Effective, but not quite Crystal Clear on what to do there...

I have referred the issue to my lawyer for advice, although I have already blocked the debit order. If Keoma gets heavy with me I will pay, but for now let's see what my lawyer comes back with, considering the circumstances that I have been sold a lemon without recourse.

Send e-mail to [email protected]. You'll get a reference number, make sure you receive it.

8. TERMINATION OF SERVICE BY THE USER
The User may terminate the Service by giving written notice to OpenISP CC at
[email protected] or 086 691 2166 as follows:

8.1 one (1) calendar months’ notice for all Users making use of debit/credit order payment facilities,
given before the 25th day of the month before the last month for the provision of the Service (e.g. if
the User wishes the Service to terminate at the end of April, notice of termination must be given
before 25 March). Users may not downgrade their ADSL account/s during the one (1) calendar
months’ notice period. Where proper notice is given in time, OpenISP CC will issue, by email, a
cancellation reference number. Only once a cancellation reference number has been issued will the
User’s account be deemed to be cancelled.

I see it says you cannot downgrade during the cancellation notice period, but what if you cancel after downgrading? NNWWSNM.

Ag it's fine. I will pay the piper his due, and go over to an ISP that doesn't screw you over when you try to leave.
ISP's need to learn that competition is stiff, and customer satisfaction is key. MWEB basically told their customers to piss off, and now OW seems to have taken a page from their book.

The S/O cancelled our OpenWeb Gold sub last week after having endless issues during the day, and then their infamous open time also took a knock, to the face, with a chair. Our various backup accounts were working perfectly.

I can understand shaping an account during office hours, but not to a point where one cannot use the service, at all. One of the big selling points for OpenWeb was the unshaped after hours (aka open time), which also became less and less reliable over the past 6 odd months.

Issuing alternative user credentials is also only a short term solution and doing it constantly and consistently will annoy customers. Their support service model really sucks at incident handling and problem management.

So, with the service being as crap as it is, their stance towards this community (being a big F U) as of late, and the alleged misguided business practices (alleged account sharing and lack of transparency), I think they'll take a knock in their revenue stream and will remain a subpar service provider for many months to come. Management wont change overnight.

Zoidberg, I'd really love to know how you constantly receive good service.

Internet in general seems stuffed at the moment. A month ago I was recommending all and sundry to try Cybersmart business uncapped. It went from brilliant to BS in the space of 24 hours. It got so bad I traded it in for a capped, unshaped account @R2.00 per gb but even that is under performing during peak hour!!!

I been using a backup Afrihost capped account and that fly's 24/7. With their current promotion you effectively pay R2.00 per gb as well but that is until September, then the promotion gets re-evaluated.

I reckon for anyone doing 200gb a month and less a capped, unshaped account is the way to go. R400 plus line rental...

EDIT: I'm basically spending R1k a month for 300gb @ 10mb...

The cancellation policy is probably not to everyones liking but it does give them the option of running those free month specials which they sometimes run. They ran a special like this when I was trying out AH and was able to get a free month of uncapped when my AH account wasn't playing nicely.

I've also cancelled multiple accounts with OW in the past and never had any issues with the process which does give me some piece of mind.
