Time to leave openweb

The S/O cancelled our OpenWeb Gold sub last week after having endless issues during the day, and then their infamous open time also took a knock, to the face, with a chair. Our various backup accounts were working perfectly.

I can understand shaping an account during office hours, but not to a point where one cannot use the service, at all. One of the big selling points for OpenWeb was the unshaped after hours (aka open time), which also became less and less reliable over the past 6 odd months.

Issuing alternative user credentials is also only a short term solution and doing it constantly and consistently will annoy customers. Their support service model really sucks at incident handling and problem management.

So, with the service being as crap as it is, their stance towards this community (being a big F U) as of late, and the alleged misguided business practices (alleged account sharing and lack of transparency), I think they'll take a knock in their revenue stream and will remain a subpar service provider for many months to come. Management wont change overnight.

Zoidberg, I'd really love to know how you constantly receive good service.

Lol, normally was able to get really good service from the forum reps (MrBeep and cableguy). I'd often PM one of them directly after sending a support ticket and it would be attended to within a few minutes. Unfortunately they're no longer participating on the forum which is a huge letdown.

They are no longer participating with a longstanding client either, who pays them a premium each month for business uncapped. Today I had to give that guy another option.

The cancellation policy is probably not to everyones liking but it does give them the option of running those free month specials which they sometimes run. They ran a special like this when I was trying out AH and was able to get a free month of uncapped when my AH account wasn't playing nicely.

I am not too interested in funding some new client's free uncapped! At least there was a lekker loophole on the MWEB one when they arranged a mass exodus. I see OW neatly closed that one.

To be clear - I was very happy with the service. To the point where I no longer had to visit the OW Feedback thread. I wasn't even aware that Keoma had retired from the forum! To see his last activity at the end of March was a bit of a shocker. This was a guy that took a keen interest in trying to keep his client base happy. But it seems like when the going got tough, the CEO got going. This is one of the strongest reasons for me leaving. But greener pastures are in sight (a month and a bit away - sigh).

We have a business uncapped account with OW at our office. In the last 3 years the internet on that account has been down once, which was due to an IS issue. If I see something works so well I generally leave it be and pay the premium.

That would be Afrihost! Their clientone management are tops.

Agreed!!!!

It's absolutely brilliant!! Despite all their shortcoming that clientzone is the most intuitive and user friendly interface you'll ever see!!!

Better the devil you know, then the devil you don't...

Planned on moving to AH/OW till I read the horror stories...

Limited to 450GB per a month before I get throttled.

I do receive full line speed thou.

Anyone got any tips to get out of being locked in for June with OW?

I really hate having to be forced in to staying a month longer than what I want to!

I asked a lawyer a while back regarding this. Below is the link for this conversation and a little gem that the guy picked up. :D

I read their standard terms and conditions, and found this:

6.4 The Service will be terminated without notice to the User, with effect from the first day of the following month, if:

6.4.1 a subscription which is due for the following month is not paid; or

So, if you want them to cancel, just do not pay. They might try to collect the next month's charge, but I would refuse - I doubt they will sue you for a small amount.
