Time to switch

the tabbed idea in ie7 they stole it from FF!

so u telling me FF stole from opera and so on?

Let's not say stole, since it was clearly an idea whose time had come.

Opera version 4 offered Tabbed browsing in year 2000.

I do remember using earlier versions of Opera in the late 90's and while it didn't have tabs specifically, it did offer resizable panes which operated within the Opera interface.

Firefox 3 takes it a step further and if you have been to a site before you only need start typing the name of the site - no www or dots - and it begins offering suggestions in lightning quick time. I only typed "Finw" and the Finweek site was at the top of the list.

Wish he would have checked that it already was in FF2 before he started raving about it. Silly guy:p

errr, firefox blows... they take most of the cool stuff from IE and stick it into there browser. Also IE7 works well with vista, i will never use FF on vista!!

whats so good about firefox? give me 3 GOOD reasons and i'll give it another go.

Hey man, nobody's worrying that you don't use it...it's your choice...but how about these 3 quick reasons:

1. Extensions such as adblock makes your browsing experience quicker and less anoying.
2. Enhanced security - no activeX controls to worry about
3. Personalization, with extensions you can accomplish almost anything with firefox.
4. Fundamentals - from a web developer's point of view firefox is fundamentaly correct by supporting web standards in the correct way.
5. Platform independent - you can use firefox on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS.

There are lots of reasons, and I find the number one reason why people don't use it, is because they are usually to lazy to play around with extensions that enhance their online experience. These people usually don't do a lot on the web in any case, but for people who practically live on the web, firefox is definitely the way to go.

From Linux experiences, I use Swiftfox (more optimised version of FF). I’ve been using the beta 3 versions of Swiftfox along with 9.50 betas of Opera. Opera is more prone to be unable to render sites properly. It then suffers some kind of performance hit when using it on a 64-bit OS. On a 32-bit OS it seems to be faster than Swiftfox though.

For my personal needs Swiftfox (FF) then pips Opera in that I am able to use the same profile across my Linux distros and XP (and Vista). But as a browser Opera is pretty great and I continue to test the betas.

and actually opera wasn't the first to come up with tabbed browsing either

firefox's whole selling point is it's extensions...if you still prefer opera, it only means you haven't fully discovered the power of really cool extensions...

I won't be able to enjoy browsing without a bunch of my ff extensions...

Exactly how I feel. I used Opera for a few years, but after seeing some extensions of ff in use, I switched and have not looked back. I still use opera occasionally for a light browser, because my firefox opens with lots of constant tabs.

AFAIK IE7 also has this.

2. Enhanced security - no activeX controls to worry about

I'm not really worried..

3. Personalization, with extensions you can accomplish almost anything with firefox.
.

Who cares - You accomplish almost anything with .NET too - it isn't a reason to use it.

4. Fundamentals - from a web developer's point of view firefox is fundamentaly correct by supporting web standards in the correct way.

But what if ur not a developer?

5. Platform independent - you can use firefox on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS.

Most people use Windows. that is a fact.

I'm sure if ur hardcore with customization then OK, great!

But i'm more of a person to be on the Web, for it's Sites! not for unnecesary Browser Capability.

Im sure Linux is great too, but for the average user....don't think so.

used opera once and didn't like it, i use FF even at work true ie also has tabbed browsing but i don't like the way it works! It all boils down to personal choice
