Okay I'm trying to sort out this CC limit thing - got my CC last month. I'm in this situation where my total limit (straight + budget) is way too high. Is there a way to lower it online? I only see the option to either increase it or to shift it between straight and budget.
I honoestly don't know. Never needed to do that, because from day 1 when I signed up, I tended to go for much lower limits, mostly as an added security that I will never spend outside of my means of paying back.

Personally I would just phone in and ask them to reduce it asap. Then confirm online once they say it is done.

But wouldnt it incur interest if you dont pay it all off? Or do you just have to pay the minimum amount?

I always thought you just had to spend, based on that example, between R1000 and R9000, a month on your CC. Didnt know the running balance had to stay in that amount.

I have an auto payment set up to pay off my credit card at the end of the month. I then start the new month with a zero balance and spend up to 80% of my credit limit and I get the points for spending between 10% and 90% of my credit limit.

Hmm, my fuel rewards haven't come through. The rest have...

I wouldn't say this is a new calendar, but it explains more in detail how your ebucks are worked out ! :)

I must say, using this, one can see where you are falling short etc (to earn more)

Hi. For anyone who has downgraded from platinum to gold: If I'm currently getting the 1500 points for not exceeding my credit limit on platinum for 18 months, and I change to a gold account, will I get the 2000 points for not exceeding my credit limit on the gold card for more than 2 years (assuming I've had a credit card for that time), given that the gold card will be new.

Asking because the ebucks site calculator says "Have you kept within your credit limit and not gone into arrears on your FNB Gold Credit Card for 1 year or more?"

ALSO does drafting the will count as a bank transaction?

Your balance won't go to zero when the auto-payment goes through, as ABU explained 4 posts above.

The rule of thumb i use for what a good credit limit is (with ebucks rules in mind) is 2.5 times your average monthly spend.

Just before my auto-payment (for full amount owing as per previous statement date) goes off my running balance is typically 45% of my ccard limit. Once it goes off my running balance comes down to 20% of ccard limit.

Your eBucks earned are on their way and will all be allocated by around the 12th of April, then you'll see the total amount of eBucks you've earned.

Currently it shows I am on RL4. However they didnt include any points for online shopping. But on the 30th of MArch I bougt something (for R10) at Takealot using my FNB cheque card. Surely this would have earned me the promised 2500 points which would have resulted in RL5 for me? Shall I give them till the 12th of April before I start complaining?

Yes, I would imagine so.

In order to avoid interest you have to pay the full amount owing on last months statement, the balance doesn't need to fall to zero though.

eg. If your limit is R10 000 and your statement date is the 15th. On the 15th of March you were owing R3000 on the CC. This R3000 has to be paid into the Card by the 7th of April.
You could continue using the card and take the balance owing up to R9000. Then on the 7th of April pay in the R3000 owing making the balance R6000.
Result: You paid in the full amount that was owing on the statement date, so no interest, plus you kept the running balance over 10% and below 90%.

The part about the 10 to 90 percent makes sense, but I don't understand where the 7th of April due date comes from? I was under the impression its 55 days interest free from date of purchase?

Anyone?

It is 55 days from your statement date, not from the date of purchase.
So if your March cycle started on the 15th of March, then anything purchased in that cycle would have to be paid for by around the 7th of May.

Awesome.

Edit: this confirms Easypay is 4% on platinum for me.

Edit 2: also shows that my US hosting account for $12/month is being allocated as Shopping Online (Credit Card) not Shopping International (Credit Card). Doesn't matter.

Edit 3: /fires off email to Toyota, Liberty, PSG and Discovery asking if it's possible to pay by credit card ... taking a chance, you never know

The running balance on your CC shouldn't fall below R1000 nor should it exceed R9000 at any time in the month.
So, you could run it up to R9000, then pay in a few thousand, then run it up to R9000 again.

Almost, but not quite.

Your account balance (actual amount you owe) should be between 1000 and 9000 at least once during the month (overnight). If you go over 9000 overnight you won't get the points. If you never hit 1000 overnight you also don't get the points.

Thats exactly what I do. Thats why I asked the question because I pay everything off at the end of the month. Now everyone just want to give me more debt! Get hassled the whole time.

Must surely be something broken on their website? Only kulula, emirates and Avis get discounts on the website now but all the others are still listed under the discounts tab.
