Also talked to my banker earlier this week. She said that I will lose points by having gold credit and platinum cheque. She also said October will be the first month of the new rules and that its gonna be month to month

Notifications are starting to filter through now.

New earn rules – what you should know.
From 1 October 2014, you will earn eBucks according to a new, simpler set of rules for Gold and Platinum accounts.

In a nutshell

FNB will be changing the way you earn eBucks on Gold and Platinum Cheque and Credit Card accounts. There will now only be one set of qualifying criteria so you don't need to qualify separately on your FNB Cheque Account and your Credit Card, and you will have one combined reward level for Gold accounts and one for Platinum accounts – which will determine your eBucks reward rate.

Grrr, I'm already on Level 5 rewards and now have to study a whole new rule sheet to get onto Level 5 again.

had a cursory glance, was a major concern that I would need to shell out extra ZAR to maintain rl5 - does indeed look that way. It may be cheaper/more beneficial to go private card route - will need to run the number$ :-)

It's quite hard to get level 5 on private clients hey...

Right, getting above level 3 is going to be kind of tough for me... 2750 points short of level 4, for an average month.

Just to make sure I understand.

Till the end of October points will be calculated using the current earn rules then from November (using the points you acquired in October) we'll see the result of the new system?

Currently on level 5. Under new rules I only get 15000 points level 3. 1000 extra is fairly easy, that makes level 4.

The final push to level 5, 18000 points, will need some creative accounting. Would be easy if I had an FNB bond.

Am I reading the new rules correctly?

Now the best approach will be to use your credit card as mush as possible, to earn eBucks, instead of your cheque card. Or will that affect your reward level?

That's how I understand it. Already requested to be switched to a platinum credit card as I only had a gold one.

this is big changes. going to be much more difficult to get to level 5. comfortably could of got to level 5 on old rules. new rules put me at level 3.

That's correct,

That's correct,

just when I was getting used to using the cheque card and finally getting to level 5 in the next month or 2, they decide to change the goal posts
if only there was another bank that was offering something similar, I would have moved just cause of all these rule changes that make the product even more harder to understand

Welll it looks like a Global Account in Euros is the most finanancially effective way to jump to level 5, 3000 points at about R11000 invested. Major reorganisation of finances required, but net effect will be R800 per month in vouchers.

Will the extra bank charges justify it?

Might be worth doing if you like having a cash buffer lying around. What costs are involved in switching currencies though? Forex isn't free.

I think I am just going to finish all my eBucks via vouchers in the next 2 months, and maybe cancel my ADSL account. Don't luke this new system at all
