Worst option to spend eBucks is by using them directly at Takealot/Zando/OneDayOnly/Makro/etc or buying vouchers on ebucks store without discount

Next worse way is to buy discounted vouchers where you have significant ebucks earn (Checkers 15%) if you use your credit/cheque card

eg. Assuming you're on RL5 if you spend R100 at checkers, you get eB150 which you can use for R25 vouchers, effectively a 25% reward. If you used discounted checkers vouchers, you are effectively giving up on this 25% earn. Of course it depends if you're buying something you ordinarily wouldn't buy then it wouldn't matter as much as Mike Hoxbig alluded to.

Best way to spend your eBucks is on vouchers where your earn would be lowest if you used your Credit Card

This is true if you earn your bulk of your ebucks on 15% spend items. If the bulk of your earn comes from the online transactions category, then it doesn't really impact your earn that much.

The bulk of earnings can't come from online transactions? The cap is R5000, after which you get your normal swipe rate. R5000 at level 5 is 4% return, R200 or eB2000

Is it when you spend 500k+ (which I know isn't the average user).

Even the bulk earnings are capped. Lets take Checkers as an example. Lets say you spend R10000 that month, and only use that on your CC, you will get rewarded for R3330 only (and 15% of that).

The special categories are capped, but the others are not:

If you are on reward level 5, your reward rate is *3% on the first R30 000 of qualifying shopping purchases (maximum eB9 000) and 1% on Credit Card shopping purchases after R30 000.

Edit: That is on RMB Private.

Hi guys,

Thanks for a great thread, I haven't nearly read through it all but I scanned most of it

Quick question:

I'm currently on RL5 on Private Clients account and really don't want to drop a level (or worse not qualify to earn ebucks at all!). I took a job at a different company and won't be getting a salary until the end of June again so there goes my "minimum deposit" to qualify for May.

I have a linked investment account from which I can transfer the needed amount into my cheque account but I'm not sure whether this will work? Not exactly keen on asking the private banker as I believe FNB will use any excuse not to pay ebucks so I don't want to alert her to this

You guys seem very knowledgable on the whole ebucks thing so any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Alerting them won't change anything, it's all automated. Chat to your banker IMHO.

Btw, do you get any ebucks on lotto purchases?
Or winnings for that matter?

Also where must you fill petrol to get ebucks?
Engen only or any station?

If you have an account at another bank or your partner has a bank account and you have some cash available in your credit card, you can do an EFT to this account and then transfer it back in to your cheque account.

FNB doesn't look at where the money comes from as long as it's not an internal transfer between your own accounts.

Obviesly must use my debit/cc fnb card?
But can only fill with ebucks at engen?
1) yes
2) yes, they want you to spend your eBucks that way as it costs them the least :D i.e. Don't do it if you want to maximise you eB worth :p

A few pages back someone said, you don't earn ebucks on plastic bags.

Mmmmm, so does ebucks scan your shopping list to see on what you earn and on what not ?

I know they scan your makro slip, but lets say at pick and pay or checkers ?

Don't know if you refer to this but there is this odd rule at Dischem:

Earn rules

You will earn eBucks and Dis-Chem benefit points on a single transaction when you produce both cards.
You can't earn eBucks:
if you pay with a voucher or gift card,
on prescriptions,
if you buy airtime,
if you redeem your Dis-Chem loyalty or benefit points,
if you buy plastic bags.

Is it possible that FNB rewards less points assigned to an eBucks level in error?

In theory No. In practice they did it to me last month and this month. Have sorted out last month and waiting for this month.

Previous errors were mine , because I didn't scrutinise the rules well enough.....so it may be that

They gave me less than maximum points for swiping over drawing cash. Thing is, I can't remember the last time I even drew cash.

Which package are you on?
If gold you need to avoid drawing cash at an atm AND draw cash at till to get maximum. If platinum you just need to avoid drawing cash at atm.
