Tips to Boost your eBucks

Quick question - do i have to have my platinum credit card linked to my platinum cheque account in order to earn points?

Here's what i noticed immediately when looking at the new rules...
We'll earn significantly less on swipes, even if we use a credit card.

So the guys here that swipe for R20k on level 5 are getting:
R20k x 0.025 = eB5000
x by 12 = eB60k in a year
Now you get eB36k
That's a big sadface

Yup , fixed

Edit: I was talking to my wife about this today, cause we getting new cards. I seriously think that as it stands the eBucks Program is bad for the bank.

So although a lot people are happy it has gone month to month, the bank has used that as an excuse to try and reduce their payouts. I mean, I just got notice right now that I earned 13000+ eBucks for August.

With that, plus 40% off discount vouchers I can buy R2200 from Makro,Edgar's, builders warehouse, sportsman's warehouse, checkers, Kalahari and many other venders. Deduct my banking fee of let's say R200 and that's R2000 spending money for 1 month!

That is a stupid amount to be giving away every month, and if there a few thousand other people on level 5, the bank just cannot afford it anymore

Some years ago, a friend at work said to me (in reference to the Vitality program) "Those guys have the best actuaries in there, mapping this whole model and making sure they always come out on top".
The thought just struck me now... maybe eBucks was always meant to be about "too good" rewards upfront to draw us in, and once they reach a critical mass, they slowly erode the benefits and rely on us sticking with FNB due to their strong product offering instead of the rewards program.
If that was the plan all along, it'll be like the finale of BattleStar Galactica.

The 'house' always wins.
You and your 'rl5-kind' :-) are considered outliers. Yes, you cost the bank money, but when you look at the total pool, I imagine you get swept up with the masses. Based on my calc's, I will maintain rl5 on plat - going to make hay as long as I can - FNB have ensured I now have a 10K fixed deposit and a 17K GlobalAccount - they are effectively narrowing the gap between what I pay them every month vs what I earn from them - still heavily in my favour at the moment. Good on you for understanding the mechanics and taking advantage :-)

No doubt they already considered everything and priced all factors into account. Especially the amount of years ebucks has been existence, they have years of data and experience to work from.

You would be surprised how little the general public know how ebucks reward tier works. Hell even a colleague's wife who works at FNB had no clue until I explained to them.

Yeah, well as someone else mentioned on this thread, something along the lines of an ignorant customer is a profitable one :p

I made back all my bank charges last month and that was only at rl3 because of rule changes and an unexpected debit order losing me a bunch of points.
Couple of tweaks and should be 5 again this month, with 12k or so ebucks, touch wood

It looks like they've decided it benefits them more to favour credit card users. The increase for using a credit card is big.

Credit card on new rules earns more than it did on the old rules. It's a much higher percentage and they've raised the earning cap.
Sorry, to clarify what i was saying:
credit card on new rules < cheque card on old rules

I created an excel ebucks plat/gold calculator for whoever is keen to use. You just need to enter '1' for whatever you qualify for.

Super spreadsheet!
So you've covered are ALL the reward level criteria?
There's nothing more that can earn us RL points?
Fluid Account? Keeping money in your savings pocket?

I don't have an FNB credit card (stuck with VirginMoney cos of the zero cost) but if FNB is pushing us towards using a credit card, then I have questions...
- If I setup my debit orders to come off my credit card, it should count as "eBucks-able" transactions right? (i.e. it counts towards to 10-90%, as well as earn eBucks for the transaction) ...and while we're on that, is there any chance a bank will allow bond payments to go off a credit card?
- Also, are you able to create "scheduled payments" and “once off payments” from an FNB Credit Card, and will this count as "eBucks-able" transactions (as explained above)?

Its a copy and paste from their PDF. I might have shorten some descriptions but you should tell what is covered. Savings pocket is there, not sure if fluid account was ever a criteria?
