This is from the old rules, but what does it really mean?
"Using your monthly straight credit balance effectively"

Evening All
Checked the numbers, will hit RL5 with new rules.
Not taking any chances though, will be converting my eBucks points for vouchers during OCT14.

"Using your monthly straight credit balance effectively"
Ensure that your current debit (straight) balance is is never more than 75% of your total straight limit. e.g. If limit is R10,000 on straight, then keep your balance under R7,500. If need be, pay in early to bring your balance down.

Do i have to have my platinum credit card linked to ebucks in order to earn points? (eg. The 500 points for having an AutoPayment)

Well closing my saving pocket so long, its going to be of no use in the future.
Also adding a small investment account to get those points...just to be sure I will be on level 5 still come November.

Jumping hoops...

I've done this since the beginning, really do not like debit orders...you have no control over the payments, so only where it is absolutely necessary I have debit orders.

Jumping hoops too. Which investment account is anyone opening to qualify?

I am eying the restart fixed deposit. Its barely better than the rest interest wise, but none the less better. And I only have to worry about it again in 13 months.

Remind me please, is this putting in 15k in line with Platinum Reward rules, or was it 50k?

From https://www.ebucks.com/web/eBucks/earn/fnb-platinum-2014.jsp

Have an FNB Investment with a minimum balance of:
R10 000 - R49 999 = 1 500 points
R50 000 or more = 2 500 points

I will do R10k for now, because that is all the points I need for give me around 19500 points, to have a safety net for level 5 depending on the other points which I am not 100% sure about.

I bought builders warehouse, makro, Kalahari and Edgar's vouchers. R5000 rand worth of them, so the 30000 Ebucks I had leftover from all the crap i bought thatI didn't really need is now finished. I suggest all Level 5s do the same before the new rules become active

EFT payments isnt considered as 'payments' not from when I last checked with them. So it wont be counted. Only actual swipes or actual payments through an online vendor using your cc/cheque.

google charges my adwords directly to my credit card every month, will this count as online payment?

That's only really needed if you know you won't make level 5 with the new rules. I am very confident I will, so not really concerned about that.

Am not too confident at this point, so will probably make level 4. I hate direct debits and shy away from any debt including credit card transactions. I like my cheque card and wish they gave better options for using that instead

I agree, I would also prefer to keep on using my cheque card going forward, but unfortunately to make the best use of this rewards program that just isn't going to work. Thus I will change my banking habits accordingly so that I still get the best out of the system. Thus I may be one of the few who will still come out top. It is not like I will be losing anything by moving my spending over to the CC.

Yip, fortunately for me with the new rules I don't have to change any behaviour other than avoiding ATMs like someone with Ebola. As things stand I will have 21,000 points based on Platinum rules. Looking forward to free uncapped ADSL, from November I assume.

Max 4mbit though

I have the free 4Mbps uncapped, its not bad but the IPC links is slightly congested lately, and they only have IPC links in JHB.

I use a VOX gig4gig with Uncapped Bolt-On for the evenings and weekends to have faster internet, and FNB during the day.

I've decided to move all my accounts to Private Banking (from a Platinum Cheque Account, and PB CC). I'll pay a bit more, but hopefully earn a bit more too.

I'll be in RL3 for my first month, but should get to RL5 in a few months time as I plan to do the Global account (3000 points), register my bond (2000 points), and let FNB keep my will (1000 points).

Those Avis point to point transfers, Free International Lounge Access and Discount on my Smart Device sealed the deal for me.

I can also earn up to 6% now on international and online purchases.
