Tips to Boost your eBucks

If you have a petro card linked to your credit card, that definitely accrues interest from day 1.
If you pay with the credit card it is the usual 55 days as far as I know, but then you are not 100% guaranteed that it will go through as a fuel purchase, and stand a chance it goes through as a normal purchase, in which case you earn far less ebucks. While they do state that, I found that every swipe for fuel thus far has gone through as a fuel purchase.

Worst case scenario, you can prevent interest on the CC by just transferring money to it before you use it. Ie, use it as if the credit limit on it was set at R0.

I was also under the impression that the 20/30% limits is per card, so you need to keep all your swipes to 1 card. Don't see why you would want to split some off to your cheque card anyways. Just use the cheque card for cash@till withdraws, everything else swipe the cc.

Thanks for the update. But what you think about credit card 10-90% rules does it have to be separately on budget and straight facility.I reduced my budget limit to almost 100.The fact is I hate using budget facility. Please also what you think about Paypal tranaction for my news server will it get points for international transaction?

Re:PetroCard. As far as i can see, very little point to the PetroCard. Currently the only point is if you want to issue it to someone (family/friend) and limit them to fuel purchases.

Up until 30 June 2013 it did give 75 monthly points towards FNB Fuel / eBucks Rewards. After that those points fell away.

edit: Yes, what citizensa said is true:

I think you will get benefits like roadside assistance and some AA services etc.

You can get roadside assistance on 2 cheque cards for cheaper than the price of petrocard

Credit card - Your minimum balance on your credit card (the amount you owe on it) must be between 10% and 90% of your limit. This is your overall (budget + straight) limit. Not looked at separately.

Paypal payment - Not an FNB transaction, not looked at, at all.

I have gold credit card and platinum cheque, I still dunno whether to downgrade to gold or upgrade to platinum...All these new rules and uncertainty is pissing me off...can somebody confirm that discount is not applicable for smart devices on platinum? If not, then I may as well downgrade to gold...

Dont worry about his post. I doubt he understood the original question.

Paypal payments, if they come off a linked FNB CC, will probably be seen as international payment, purely based on the reason, that the money is leaving the borders of RSA.

Paypal payments not coming off a linked CC will not qualify for ebucks rewards, because that is not coming off your FNB CC.

So all in all, it is about specifics in the question and/or answer.

Thanks Tinuva. Its the reason why I rely more on forum members than the actual FNB staff as they are more confusing than convincing,if you ask the same question to 3 different customer care officers invariably you will get 3 different answers.

Would it be better to upgrade to platinum or stay on gold.
Don't have any home loans or overdraft.
What's easier to get to to the highest level with the new ebuck rules.
Been using discovery and on diamond but it's a pain to stay on it now with their new rules

Gold or Platinum depends on what you have with FNB and what you use and do. You have to go write down the rules that you can get points on for both gold and platinum, and work out which one will suit you best. Unfortunately this is not an easy to answer question. Home loan alone is a massive 3000 points on Plat, without that you will have to do a lot to get to level 5.

Discovery is very easy to get to platinum. Just do all the checkups once a year, some online questionaires and do regular physical activities, easiest being just visiting the gym 12 times a month.

Here's my 2 cents worth.
International online purchases are treated as online purchases. Only physical swipes (Card Present) are considered under "International purchases"

An international purchase where the card is not physically present will be billed in foreign currency and then the ZAR amount will be calculated based on the exchange rates on the day of the transaction. So, IMO, that would be considered as "international purchase".

In any event, it's not like we are going to fly to another country to physically swipe our credit cards so this debate is of little practical value other than it influencing our decision to try earn points in another manner :p

I got points for an international purchase for an online transaction.
