Hi Guys,

With the new changes coming in October, I thought it prudent for us to share proven ways to boost ebucks earn.

So what works for me is this:

Just so that you know ... I am on level 5 and qualify for a 40% discount. I clear my credit card in full each month as I do not believe in living on credit but value the worth of a good credit rating.

1) I use my ebucks to buy virtual vouchers from Makro. Then I buy the stuff that I need when it goes on special. Usually these are discretionary items like PS4 or Xbox games. Or coffee. (Can someone tell me why its gone so expensive lately, WTF!!!)

2) That FNB saving pocket account is one means of jumping up the tier. I only use it for that purpose.

3) I buy household essentials only from Checkers. Not only have I found it to be cheaper but the kick back from ebucks is awesome. I bought a PS4 game from the kick back last month from makro as well as world cup stuff to donate to a charity.

I will post more in separate post. Gotta run for a meeting.

Cheers,
:)

5. Central America was hit by a fungus that will affect coffee output for years. About two years ago, a fungus called roya (or coffee rust) decimated crops throughout Central and South America. Coffee rust has been present for years in coffee growing communities, but in 2012, because of irregular weather, the fungus exploded throughout the region. The New York Times estimates that in Guatemala alone, production has decreased by over 25 percent and 100,000 jobs directly tied to the crop have already disappeared. Given that coffee seedlings take five to seven years to produce beans for production, replacing the plants and getting back to pre-roya output levels is a daunting task for the four million people in Central America who rely on coffee for their livelihood.

Could be the reason....that and inflation is generally pushing everything up (seen your grocery bill lately...freakn crazy!)

Ok, thanks for the coffee info. Appreciated.

Back to ebucks,

6. I buy almost everything on my credit card and pay it off in full at month end. In FULL. Not a single cent short else the interest is going to bang you. CAUTION: YOU MUST BE SUPER DISCPLINED TO DO THIS. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

7. I don't bother with my debit card. the ebucks cap does not make it worth it.

8. I have a supplementary card for my partner to use and we fill our fuel with the CREDIT card. You earn ebucks and it is treated as a POS transaction.

I don't use my credit card at all (Not ever), and only use my cheque card.
Why do you say to use the credit card?
And why petrol on the credit card?

My earn rate is very low on the credit card, so shifting to that would mean losing thousands of ebucks for a couple of months

9. ebucks is a cool way not to keep your spending on discretionaries under the radar.

CONFESSION TIME:
Buy a set of gorgeous 'crystal' champagne flutes for R1000 at Makro. Pay for it using a R600 voucher and tell the wife/husband/etc that you got it on special for R400, justifying the purchase ....lol.

I experience the opposite. My level on my cheque account is 3 and 5 on credit card.

If that is the case for you ... please dont change it. But I would advise speaking to FNB to confirm that you are on the right track (if you have not done so already)

PS. I am not sure how private banking accounts. I am with retail.

I only recently joined RMB/FNB, but my cheque card is on 4 and credit card on 1.
Why do you put your purchases on the credit card rather than the cheque card?

Is there some difference between the two? I thought as far as eBucks go, they are exactly the same (Except that fuel rewards are lower on the credit card)

eBucks and FNB are very opaque about these sort of details. And I imagine they are opaque quite intentionally

Thanks.

Hmmm did they change this recently? I've been using my credit card up until this point but it seems that using a cheque card is the way to go. Could've sworn it wasn't like that in the past, but I'm open to correction.

I'm not entirely sure.
I was under the impression that cheque card is best, so that's what I've been using.
Hence my questions to ssd :)

I'm the same as you. I'm on level 5 on my debit card (platinum) and 1 on my credit card (private client). That earns me about 12k ebucks a month so I'm not changing that in a hurry.

Does anyone know what changes are coming in October?

Hi sdd.

Hmmm... guess I'll try my cheque card next month and see what it does. It's only a Gold account though - didn't see the point of getting a platinum card if I was going to use my credit card as the primary means of payment. Think i'll hit the R19 999 (stand under correction...) cap fairly consistently. Ah well, worth a shot!

Is there a cap on earnings? Is the cap the same for cheque and credit card?

EDIT : I see the earn rate on purchases on the credit card is only 1%. And it is capped at eB2000 pm - https://www.ebucks.com/web/eBucks/earn/fnb-credit-card.jsp

Cheque account is up to 2.5% and capped at eB5000 - https://www.ebucks.com/web/eBucks/earn/fnb-cheque.jsp

That looks far worse than the cheque card

How is that possible? Thought there was a monthly cap on eB?

With the cheque card, the limit on Shoprite & Checkers is eB10 000.
On your regular purchases it is eB5 000.
Fuel is eB6 250
Electricity is eB1 100

So it is easily possible. You just have to be willing to shop at Shoprite & Checkers :)

I don't fully understand the whole ebucks thing and have no real idea why I'm on level 5. We do make certain efforts to buy fuel at Engen and shop at Checkers though :)
