EBucks are earned only on the actual amount paid.
You get 2% from Kalahari by entering your ID. This is separate and added to the x% you can get from using your card to pay directly
Cool. That makes sense. Thanks for clarifying!

Global coffee bean shortage.
Never buy vouchers for Checkers. Basically, the 15% return on ebucks works out to 25% when you calculate the voucher value.
R100 spend, 15 ebucks gained. 15 ebucks can be used to buy R25 worth of vouchers. So works out to 25% exactly. You can use this to simplify price comparisons
Is not 150 ebucks ? i.e. R15 worth of ebucks?
I forget, is it in fact possible to get 55 days interest free on all transactions? It isn't actually, hey? That's why they say "up to" 55 days interest free.
Yeah my bad. I always work with the rand value of eBucks when calculating since you just add in steps otherwise. Is not 150 ebucks ? i.e. R15 worth of ebucks?
There is one exception to this rule that I was made aware of recently. That is if you buy airplane tickets, you only need to pay a certain minimum amount with ebucks, the rest you can pay with money to still get the 40% discount on the whole ticket.
Yeah I think that is the same for ebucks and for discovery. From what I understand you only get 40% off on the non-tax portion of the plane ticket.

Plus, of course, the cost of the SmartDeviceI'm currently at 15000 points, so reward level 3. And I realized I only got this because I bought something online in the last month, which gives you 1500 points. Once I have my credit card for long enough, I'll get another 1500 points for not having gone into arrears for 6 months.
I've decided that I am going to invest R10000 into an FNB investment account. This will give me another 2500 points, which could push me into level 5 if I combine it with maybe one other thing (possibly a smart device?). There is an opportunity cost in the form that the interest I will get on my R10k is pretty bad, and I could use that money to payback my car instead. But I think double the eBucks (going from level 4 to level 5) from checkers and fuel will be worth it.

I had a look at that Discovery discount for a return flight to Europe.
Discovery (Kulula, I think through Emirates) quoted me a price of R10500 return, minus 30% discount, so R8500.
The Emirates website quoted me R8500 flat.
So yeah, I think these discounts are not what you think they are.
If I decide to get one. Thing is, I can't think of a smart device that I actually need at the moment. A laptop would be nice, but if I buy a laptop, I would rather go to Incredible Connection where they have a much bigger selection and I will get a 15% discovery discount.
So I don't want to get a smart device that I actually don't need.
Does anyone have a summary of what needs to be done to get to rewards level 5? (platinum)
I have read through most of the thread and it looks like you need both an investment and an international investment. What is the best one to just dump in the R10 000 in?

Anyone used the global account?
Besides a tax clearance number, you need SARS authorisation number (or something like that)?
I had a chat with the FNV Forex - 0860 1 FOREX (36739)
You need to choose "512-07 Foreign investments - Other" and then the tax clearance certificate number field is not required to be filled.
I made a USD inter-account transfer yesterday, and it was processed and reflecting on my account today.
