Something funky is going on with FNB's credit approval process.
A few days ago, I tried to see if I could take out a temporary loan for R300. Remember a few pages back, one poster said that a temporary loan like that was essentially paying FNB R39 for a massive points boost. I was going to click cancel as soon as it came up, but it didn't even get that far, it said that my account was not eligible. I contacted the "Premier" banking service, but as usual they knew nothing and could not help. I left it because I didn't really want a loan anyway.
Then, yesterday, I applied for a Smart Device - a Lenovo A7600 for the grand total of R165 per month. Not breaking the bank, you would agree. I get an SMS today saying that my application has been declined due to not meeting the credit criteria.
I currently have a credit card with FNB, a credit card with discovery (also backed by FNB), a homeloan with FNB, and vehicle finance with FNB. I had a look at my credit report today, and my credit is outstanding - 966 out of a possible 999. So nearly as good as you can get. My salary more than covers that device, frikken 10 times over.
Googling the message that I got, I see that I am not the first person to complain about it. Maybe a "genius" locked my account or something?
I phoned them, and they said (as usual) they had no idea. They had to send a message to the credit department, who would (apparently) phone me back by the end of today. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
