I've just received a notice to say I can get Private Client cheque card - but will it effect my ebucks with Platinum Credit and Private cheque? I think I remember a friend at work saying she didn't get all her ebucks because both weren't the same catagory

yep it will.

Just phone them to upgrade your cc to private.

If you upgrade your cheque account to PC, just make sure you also upgrade your credit card.

FNB screwed up my upgrade and left me on level 1 for two months. Still busy trying to get them to allocate my ebucks from their mess up. Have managed to get eB3 000 from them thus far.

What I'd like to know is how different cards affect your reward level.

https://www.ebucks.com/web/eBucks/earn/fnb-platinum-2014.jsp#reward-level
"In order to maximise your eBucks earn, you need to have both an FNB Platinum Cheque and a Platinum Credit Card."

I only find that little line, nothing else that explains what happens if that is not the case. From what others have said here, it sounds like it should read "In order to not drop 4 levels, ...".

I do not even know what that means?

I do however use my CC like cash, so I never go into credit/debt or whatever. I.e. I always have a positive balance, even though I am transacting to an amount every month that exceeds 10% of my limit. That may be it then? I have limit of R85 000 and I spend approx. R10 000 per month, but 'cos that R10 000 is not credit, I do not get those points?
Yes, that's the problem right there. You need to ensure that your running balance is always between -8500 and -76500. Silly rule but yeah, they want you to use your credit card like a credit card...

Check that you are eligible to upgrade both before you change anything! Else you will lose out big time.

My old man went to fill up R700 petrol with his platinum card issued under my account. All the forecourt card machines were out of order (massive renovations going on there) so he had to pay at the convenience store.

Has anyone here had any luck asking FNB or their premier banker to allow such a transaction as a fuel transaction, thereby getting the appropriate eBucks fuel rewards?

Will email my banker to ask, and also get my old man to see if the station manager can reverse and recharge using the correct machine.

Realistically what more rewards do you get going from platinum to private? Only thing I can see is the swipes earn 0.5% and online 1% more. There's also the lifestyle thing but I don't think I'll ever use that.

Did I miss something?

The earn caps are also higher I think for fuel and Checkers.

FNB private or RMB private?

Check out the RMB earn rules here.

Shoprite/Checkers and fuel have higher caps.

Shopping (excluding above) has a soft cap of R30k spend, with different rates thereafter per earn level, while Platinum has a fixed rate after first R20k.

Any one done this and got the reward ebucks?

If at the end of the fourth month since opening your FNB Cheque account, you meet the following Join Bonus Booster requirements, you'll receive 12 000 points once-off. This means you will reach reward level 5 in under four months of switching to FNB.

Meet the relevant minimum deposit amount according to the FNB Cheque Account you hold,
Set up one or more debit orders on the account, and
Collect 1 550 points in the fourth month since opening your account.

I opened my account in mid december... does that mean they count December as a full month? So I need to earn enough RL points in March to make RL5 in May?

Upgrading my account won't do something arb like reset my levels or something?

Time for a rant:

I'm sick and tired of FNB and eBucks passing the buck on ALL enquiries. I have called both re. the fact that one of the "rules" I am compliant to, does not reflect on my total monthly points. See below:

"Use between 10% and 90% of your credit card limit" This has a value of 1 500 points which would put me in the top bracket of 18 000 points or more.

Neither can tell me exactly what this means, but logic dictates that it means I should spend 10% of my CC limit every month to get those points. I spend more than that, but have never received those points.

eBucks call centre says it is out of their control and I must talk to FNB. No one at FNB can help me or even put me in touch with the correct people/department. WTF ?

I have now resorted to a more obvious one:

" Have an Overdraft Facility of R2 000 or more, a Temporary loan, a Revolving loan or a Personal loan" where I took a R 2000 overdraft facility, which will give me an additional 2 000 points and this will technically double my eBucks every month. I cannot wait to see if this will actually happen or not.

I have my doubts...
On the credit card limit, it is 10% of your total limit (i.e. budget + straight)

On the overdraft question, it's not enough to just have one. You actually have to use some of it...

Paying at the shop won't get you the eBucks. It has to be the POS device that they bring to your car...

No, you need to make sure that your running balance gets between -8500 and -76500 and stays that way overnight for at least one day of the month. Doesn't have to be there the whole period, you must just have it there overnight at least once a month.

If the shop recognised it as a fuel transaction (I know that Total & I think Caltex garages can do this) then you'll get the eBucks. Check the till slip, if it shows fuel on it (usually has type, price and amount of fuel) then you'll get the eBucks
