Tips to Boost your eBucks

Hi,

Can your show us the email here please? I think most of us didn't get that email. Thanks!

Cos you didn't ask ;)

Thank you for your mail.

Please see the statement we have received from eBucks:
It has always been a paramount goal at eBucks Rewards to bring value to as many of its members as possible. To do that, we need to ensure that all qualifying members are able to benefit from the vouchers on discount. It is with this in mind that a discount threshold of R6,000 per month was effected as of 1 March 2016 on all discounted vouchers (i.e. Makro, Dis-Chem Pharmacies, and Checkers & Shoprite) available in the eBucks Shop and on the FNB Banking App.
The implementation of monthly discount thresholds will ensure continuous member benefit and sustainability of the programme.
eBucks Rewards members will continue to enjoy healthy discounts, regardless of their reward level. For instance, a member on reward level 3 who qualifies for a 20% discount will pay only R4,800 in eBucks to buy R6,000 worth of vouchers. That’s a saving of R1,200. Bearing in mind that the member is spending their eBucks earned, and not cash, discounted vouchers clearly still offer a generous extension to existing eBucks benefits. Moreover, once the monthly discount threshold has been reached, members can continue spending their eBucks in the eBucks Shop and on the FNB Banking App, but will not qualify for any further discounts on voucher purchases until the following month.

For any further information, you can chat to your Private Banker.

And clarification:
I have received further clarity and advised that the discount is limited to R6,000 worth of vouchers per month, but the maximum value of the discount obtainable depends on the customer’s rewards level. For example, someone on Rewards Level 5 qualifies for a 40% discount on vouchers. They can still purchase as many vouchers as they want using their available eBucks, but only the first R6 000 will be discounted (R6 000 x 40% = eB24 000 / R2 400 discount maximum monthly discount).

Golden info.

Thanks Sinbad.

I am also on the Fee Saver. But I never see charges going off when depositing money via the advanced ATM's

OK great, I will give it a try. Do you deposit directly into you Premier cheque account? Only once a month?

I guess this will change my redemption behavior a bit. Usually I let the eBucks accumulate then go to Makro for a big ticket item.
Instead, I will have to buy a voucher each month and stack them when I want to make the purchase.

I do regular deposits, but I use my bonds rather than my cheque account. I don't earn any interest on my cheque account because of the fee saver option. So the best way to save more is directly into my bond

Always wondered why I didn't earn interest when other people told me they were. So its because of fee saver! Thanks.

That's what I've been doing anyway, just in case when I finally have enough ebucks to buy that R1.2m TV, they remove the discount ;)

I was gonna say invite me over to watch a movie but I'm sure I'll be able to watch from my house anyway.

I'm not sure there are many people earning more than eB 36,000 a month on a regular basis (which would be what is required to buy R6,000 vouchers in a month). The most I've ever managed in an exceptional month has been eB 36,250, Averaging at around 24,000 on PW RL5.

As others have indicated, if you are earning somewhere close to the 36k ebucks in a month, it just means you buy vouchers when you earn them instead of buying one big lot of vouchers once off just before a purchase. To me it makes no real difference. I'll just buy (and keep) vouchers immediately after I earn the ebucks.

I know a few people were gaming the system by getting family/friends to send them ebucks, then getting them all vouchers at max discount.

Given this, I would then fully support the rule. The alternative for FNB would be to disable eBucks transfer.

The lesser of 2 evils I suppose.

I have to believe that the eBucks transfer feature wasn't an accident ... it was a design choice. So it's not like anyone would be breaking "the spirit of eBucks" by using someone on RL5 to buy them vouchers.

I understand what you're saying.

However, a rewards program has to be sustainable. If people transferring their ebucks to others on a higher RL to buy discounted vouchers becomes unsustainable, it would make sense that the bank imposes some restriction on this. A restriction on voucher purchases is certainly fairer than stopping the ability to transfer ebucks.
