Tired all the time

http://whfoods.org/genpage.php?tname=faq&dbid=32

You don't need to cut out carbs but you should cut down on rubbish food and eat as much low gi food as possible.

You don't need rubbish food to get energy, fruit and low gi foods will ensure you get all the energy you need. Fruit as in the whole fruit not 100% fruit juice unless the fruit juice is consumed after a low gi meal.

Thing is, i'm sure i'm not the only one, where everyone tries to cut out carbs and sugar out of their diets, so in the end by 5pm you REALLY got nothing left! People skip breakfasts, they eat these ultra low carb, zero fat, zero sugar salads for lunch and dinner and then wonder why they are zombies by the time they get home from work?

Carbs make you net tired. (Try eating slaap chips for lunch and see how far you get into the afternoon before you're catatonically tired)
Bad sugars make you net tired.
Unhealthy drinks make you net tired.
Those things will make you a zombie.

Proteins give energy.
Healthy sugars give energy.
Water gives energy.

I suffered from this. After many years eventually discovered that I have a mild form of arthritis. Body is constantly fighting itself. That's what caused my tiredness. My body doesn't get to "rest" when I sleep.

What are you taking for this?

Not disagreeing, but the average person most likely struggle to find a good balance of all that . There's so many diets and studies that i won't be surprised if people just don't know what to eat anymore. And i agree, junk food, especially if you have a big lunch, you will feel like napping for the rest of the afternoon, so it's also a consideration.

Either way, i suggest get some energy about 3pm , either eat something healthy, or try an energy drink and see what happens by 5pm when you get home. I know in my case i always have this bad habit , where i would have my very light lunch at 12 and then i'm on tea/decaf coffee for the rest of the day, and guess what? I'm a zombie when i get home (no surprise if you ask me) . I've realised i must get some sort of nutrition inbetween 12 and 5 if i want to have the motivation to do something when i get home.

My sleep patterns don't sync in with the rest of society, so here's what my week generally looks like in terms of energy:

Monday - Still okay because I got decent sleep on the weekend
Tuesday - Less energy due to less than full night's sleep on Monday night.
Wednesday - Less energy due to less than full night's sleep on Tuesday night
Thursday - Less energy due to less than full night's sleep on Wednesday night
Friday - Basically completely screwed.
Saturday - Usually get a reasonable night's sleep. Sometimes not so much if I have to get up early.
Sunday - Feel fine due to sleeping in until my body wakes up naturally.

During the week I get usually about 6-6.5 hours of sleep. This is ok if I don't work out. If I work out I wake up the next day feeling like absolute ****. Also, my energy levels peak late at night, usually starting at about 11. Most nights I'm still awake at 1 am and feel completely fine but have to force myself to go to sleep. Weekends are better because I usually sleep from 1/2-ish to about 8 or 9 the next morning. This is not the best for me, but it's ok.

The best sleep I have ever had was when I worked nights and I could go to sleep at 4 in the morning and get up at 12. I felt fantastic when I was living that routine.

From about 10am at work I used to feel lethargic with no energy for the rest of the day. I changed my diet a bit with an increase in fruit and less carbs and it seemed to have helped. I then looked at my sleep pattern and realised I was waking up from a deep sleep cycle and I needed 25 minutes more or 25 minutes less so that I wake up from a light sleep cycle.

I googled the info and learnt about trough and peak cycles and rapid eye movement ( REM) cycles etc and that has really impoved my energy levels throughout the day.

I have a sense that this would help my wife's tiredness.

Could also be a sinus infection that also causes a bad nights sleep and waking up tired.
A run when you get home is a good idea the endorphins always make you feel better.

But ultimately the best thing is to go to a doctor and rule out iron deficiency, diabetes, etc and then go from there.

google says you have cancer

You're crazy :D
I just laughed at loud and colleagues are asking me what's going on.
But I guess you're trying to tell OP that Internet is not where he will get the right answer. Right?
It's good to have other people's opinions and experiences, but he/she should definitely go and see a doctor.

It's true, if you google any symptom you can think of, you will almost instantly find a site that tells you, you got cancer. Then any food you eat, will give you cancer too. Marketing/Advertising and the online world unfortunately thrive on fear mongering to sell their products.

WebMD's a bitch

Is it just me, or has anyone else on this forum "suffered" from this?

Do you come home from work and lay on the couch or bed until you fall asleep?

Do you generally not feel like doing anything but sit in front of your pc or tv?

From the moment I wake up until the moment I go back to bed at night I feel exhausted.
I don't even feel like going to pubs, clubs or any outings anymore.

Would gym help get my energy levels back on par?
And if not, what would?

All the same here OP. Although I have "Delayed sleep phase disorder". Can't fall asleep at night (lie awake til 3am), can't wake up in the morning (Sleep right through my alarm clock blaring and arrive at work 1-2hours late each day). Best advice is going to a doctor to be sure it's nothing serious (insulin problems etc). Otherwise a booster shot should do you well, and it doesnt burn like hell if the doctor knows what he's doing, last time i went for a shot it was painless.

A boost doesn't solve the issue though, all it does is mask it.

You need to look at your diet, breakfast will dictate how you feel for the day. Eat poorly or don't bother eating breakfast then you can take drugs if it's easier for you but i would look into how i eat and google what foods to eat at what times and whether protein is good at night or morning and blah blah blah

The lazy option, doctor ---> some sort of drug before they even mention diet.

Try consult a doctor to test if its not something like the arthritis or hormone/insulin issue. If that fails I understand there is a great sleep clinic that can actually check your sleep cycles and see if your sleep is just stuffed. Diet or stress can also cause this kind of thing.

Don't oversleep. If I have a bright and early morning I feel much better throughout the day. Remeber to eat breakfast.

What are you taking for this?

Etoricib, changed my life. Meant to 1 day, but I can get by with less. you will need a perscription. See a rheumatoid arthritis specialist. However, in SA, despite the correct diagnosis, I was given the wrong medication. But maybe that was just doctor I used. Etoricib was prescribed by my NHS specialist in London. Don't take medicine based on advice from here. See a professional. You can sue them, you can't sue some arb on mybb:)
It is available in SA. My mum was given it as anti-inflammatory, when she hurt her ankle falling down stairs. Imagine my surprise when they gave it to her.....

Have your iron levels tested. I suffered the same and a simple blood test revealed low iron.
Iron shots worked wonders and now maintained by daily iron supplement.
