Today is number porting day!!

This topic must be THE most posted topic thread at the moment... threads are all over the place

I spoke to someone from Virgin Mobile and only 78 people have ported to them so far.

Wonder what the stats are like for the rest?

I am porting from Vodacom to MTN, filled in all the forms and all that. Will have to wait till next week for it to kick in.

And I want to port from MTN to Vodacom

Reasons for me going to MTN are:

a) The whole data bundle story which Vodacom can't get right. [can buy them "on-the-fly" and it's not calendar month restricted on MTN].
b) 15 Peak Minutes + 85 Off Peak Minutes [MTN] versus 120 Off Peak Minutes [Voda] on the equivalent contracts.
c) The Nokia E70 which the few Vodashops i asked at had no clue about, they kept trying to sell me the N70 instead.
d) Vodacom was unable to port my prepaid number onto a contract 2 years ago, thus i signed a voice contract with a new number which i only ended up using for data ..any attempts to migrate to different contracts [i.e. pure data] after i realised my usage was futile, Vodacom couldn't do it.

I'm sure MTN got their own set of issues, just like changing banks, probably just changing one evil for another.

how do you go about changing service providers?

What I really what to know about number portability is how to best cut my cell phone charges which are in the region of R350-R600 pm on contract. We really need a site that addresses this, perhaps with some comparative calculator?

I walked into my nearest MTN shop, they printed out some forms which i filled in. I required my vodacom sim as proof , there's a number on it which they also take down, then you sign a bunch of times and now i wait for them to turn off my current sim and activate a new sim with the number....
