There's certainly skill in controlling the horse in the equestrian events, but then - what about motor racing? There's loads of skill in that. Should that be an Olympic sport?
And on the subject of equestrian - it's the only sport where men and women compete together, which I always found interesting. There is undoubtedly skill involved, but the gender-neutrality implies there isn't much strength involved. So by that measure - why not esports? How about chess?
I watched some shooting and archery this morning (I couldn't get into the shooting but I found the archery quite exciting) and wondered why men and women can't compete together. There doesn't seem much strength involved. I mean sure, I couldn't control one of those bows, so you do need arm strength, but the women seem to hit the high numbers as consistently as the men, so one assumes the strength *differental* is not key.
It's the same as with chess, the total number of women competing are way less than the men, so as a result the women don't do as well when playing vs men (for example the best woman might be as good as the best man, but the #2 woman is only ranked vs #10 man etc).
I quite like archery as well, it's crazy how accurate they are.
