Too fat to fly?

I'm not saying that there are not those types but they are less a majority than most people think. .

The facts do not agree.

At an individual level, a combination of excessive food energy intake and a lack of physical activity is thought to explain most cases of obesity. A limited number of cases are due primarily to genetics, medical reasons, or psychiatric illness.

The point is the majority of morbidly obese people are so through their own doing.

If I see a porker waddling down the aisle with a trolley full of junk food while munching away at something that didn't even get as far as the check-out with a young blimp of a child throwing in packets of chips and twinkies then chances are good they are not ill or depressed but just gluttons.

@celine
(serious question) why did you let her get to that weight before you changed medication?

sorry haven't been on much today been really busy.

getting back to your reply BOFH, i beg to differ. my daughter was on cortisone inhaler from the age of 6 years old. periodically she would have to take the tablets. now she is a small eater. but over the years she gained so much weight that by the age of 14 she was weighing 78kgs. i had to put a stop to it and stop the inhaler and use other medications for her asthma. if it had continued the way it was going i would hate to think what she would have weighed a year later. i was insistent with the pulmonologist on this. he kept telling me there is hardly any cortisone in the inhaler. since changing her meds she has lost weight. it has taken months of hard work on her part but she has got there.

now you see why i feel for people who have a medical condition and have weight issues. i agree that those who choose to become obese because of over indulging is entirely their problem.

but people need to be more sympathetic when it comes to certain issues and from the responses i have read i feel that some of you are just nasty and rude.

OMW are you nuts, cortisone is a steroid.

I have asthma myself and know that stuff is baaad news, it has worse side effects and probably worse off than taking Ventolin on a daily basis, that's why I told the doctor here to shove it when he wanted me to use cortisone inhalers.

What I do use for Asthma now, is not really legal well not in SA, so can not exactly tell you what to use instead. As I know Ventolin/Venteze is just as bad when used over a long period, well it affects your heart, so maybe you can find out more about a certain injection I heard about that you only need once every 6 months.

Back On topic:
Fat people should pay more, or maybe they should just start charging people based on weight like they do with luggage, no discrimination against fat people, its just that they need to pay more to get and keep the plane up in the air and that money has to come from somewhere. So for example up to 100 Kg/s = set price if you over it you pay X amount per 10 KG's

Maybe its high time us skinny fks can stop supporting the rest of you big boned lot :)

I can't even see 99% of you losers calling someone a "fat fsck" in real life ...... and if you do, you're 100% likely to be one of those people who use other terms like "indian fsck", "black fsck", etc etc.
Generalise much? Don't know how any of this transcends into race - the majority of obese people are that way through their own doing. In fact since you're 100% sure about this, I'm guessing you can quote a source.
I'm not saying that there are not those types but they are less a majority than most people think. I'm a big boy and I know 3 other big boys. Out of the group, 3 of us eat healthy and exercise daily with the 4th friend having major depression issues (lot of death in his family like) and he eats terribly. There are people in this world who drink their problems away, or take drugs, or fight, etc etc. To me it's the same thing ..... it's destructive yes but there is a reason behind it. So unless you have a magic machine to tell you that a particular "fat fsck", as you like to throw about, has no issues mental or physical, who the fsck are you to judge? Take a moment to let that sink in ..... if it can.
Drinkers, druggies and fighters don't invade on my (already limited) personal space on a plane. Seek another outlet that doesn't affect others. You wouldn't like someone blowing smoke in your face on a plane.

Try flying to New York with some snot nose brat screaming for what 17 hours?

I'm with you on this one, I can put up with a fat person who might take the whole armrest, but OMG, try being trapped between TWO screaming families for 11 hours! I had one group next to me and the other behind me, I felt like jumping out the plane somewhere over the Congo .

Kids under about 10 years old shouldn't be allowed to fly on long haul (or perhaps have special "family with screaming kids" only flights once a week that us sane people can avoid).
