*Cries in vtec*

I miss mine every day.

Also it's common knowledge that the S2000 diff is made out of week-old cheese.

My diff is still going strong after literally thousands of hard track KMs and many hooligan launches with 255 wide semi rubber...

Very interesting, goes to show why it never sold massively well in S.A. during it's production run. Also the main reason people can ask for stupid money for them these days, there just aren't that many, especially clean ones.

Selling mine still makes me cry daily.

That's pretty impressive, how regularly do you flush the fluid? Definitely an atypical case though, there are enough reports online to show that the diff was definitely a weak point.

I know you said you only sold yours as you had a offer you could not refuse. Care you perhaps share how much profit you made from from your sale...

I'm using a Redline diff oil, I forget exactly which one, but it's only been changed once in the last 3 years. It's only a weekened warrior so in 3 years I've only bumped it up it from 48,000km to 67,000km. A lot of those have been hard kms, but it's well maintained and is always warmed up properly. It's bulletproof and makes a mockery out of much more powerful cars on trackdays. Considering I paid under R200k for it with such low mileage and one old man owner, it was the bargain of the century. I doubt it's possible to get much better value in terms of current value vs fun factor and capability.

Rather not publically, but you have PM. :)

I would also be curious to know, not publically of course, as I have a 2006 S2000 with 65k on the clock.
May have to sell as considering emigration.

Serious bargain and agreed on all points, very few cars can match the fun factor and capability, even at twice the price. N/A, 9,000RPM, RWD and light weight is a very special combination.

Heck I'd give you R200K and my right nut for the car right now!

If it's clean, mint condition with no mods at all you can certainly look at well north of R270,000 - there are plenty of buyers out there with cash waiting for a pristine example.

The second it's modded the value drops dramatically though.

She's had a few basic mods, engine still stock though (apart from an exhaust that none of my neighbours like, no idea why).

I've kept all the stock parts so I can revert to stock if I ever sell (doubt I will). Very true, a modded one isn't worth nearly as much as an original.

In your case as a track toy it makes sense. Can imagine it sounds lovely with the exhaust, have you got a single exist local system, or a dual exist brand name (invidia etc.)? Any induction mod? Removed the airbox lid yet?

Its in excellent condition and stock standard. Have owned it since almost new - had 1000kms on when I bought it. Loved every day with this car so it has been treated accordingly

Then perhaps you might get a six digit number that starts with a 3 instead of a 2, that happens.

Local dual exit system (Jaylan) with original exhaust tips so it looks stock. Brakes, bracing is Spoon, suspension is HKS, few other nice imported goodies, but engine bay is totally stock. The OEM airbox works very well, even though it sounds great with the lid off, who wants to soak in all that hot air. And with this exhaust you wouldn't hear that nice induction noise anyway :)

I never really experienced much heat-soak with the lid off, though to be fair I didn't spend hours on a track. Exhaust is that loud? Epic, mine was a daily so even the stock exhaust got a bit much during a quick highway jaunt to a meeting etc. Airbox lid remianed off to and from work though, turned a few extra heads and sounded oh so good.

Damn this thread.

I think the GT86 fills that spot for now.

Having driven both extensively I can confirm the GT86 is nowhere near close to filling the S2000 gap. The engine is a bit gutless and doesn't have enough character. It doesn't sound as good. It's not convertible. The chassis doesn't handle as well (though it's not bad). The car doesn't feel as focussed. The gearbox is not as good. There's not enough theatre when you get in and drive. The 86 is more comfortable and practical, and that's exactly what's wrong with it. Years from now you're not going to have communities of enthusiasts jostling to get a mint condition unmolested GT86. The Mazda MX5 / Fiat 124 are a better option than the GT86 if you're looking for a modern I-can't-have-an-S2000-so-I-need-to-settle sports car, though they still miss the magic of the S2000. It's even more depressing when you consider the S2000 was the product of the 90s (with a refresh in 2006).
