Top 10 malware list

BitDefender, a global provider of antivirus software and data security solutions, has announced that malware packers gained even more popularity in the month of April, as three of the positions on BitDefender’s April 2008 Top Ten Malware list are occupied with malware packed by such software.

I'm surprised not to see ZLOB on that list, or Smitfraud, if reading up on the internet security forums is anything to go by.

The never ending battle continues on and on. Sigh

Smitfraud plagued me for nearly a year and cost me muchos bucks to get removed... *shudders*

For me the worst malware are the programs that pretend to be antivirus progs and when they "scan" on boot they find hundreds of viruses in your machine.Unfortunately the free version can only detect and not remove these "viruses".

Normally when we get this the machines come in with 2 or more of these proggies.

I really really hate them.

Lol, this is what i had LOTS of experience in.
Recently my bro was surfing the internet, on these warez sites (which had LOTS of viruses)
something like http://keygen.ws and http://serial.ws
Stupid as he is, he downloads this Kaspersky keygen.exe and opens it, and what do you know,
i see this the command prompt (cmd) pop up for a few secs, saying copieng to system32 blah, blah

Bitdefender scans it a a Trogan Vundou (or something like that) right after that, I see the taskbar dissapear and icons (explorer.exe)

Went Ctrl+Alt+Delete and clicked "new task" typed in explorer.exe
It showed the icons for 4 seconds, and then dissapeared LOL
I restarted my pc, to see if there was any change, Nope! nothing changed. so I managed to go and click CTRL+ALT+DEL and clicked New task and firefox.exe blah, blah and surfed through the internet for ways to stop this virus, and after hours, i downloaded this program called VundoFix and ComboFix, ran those, and rebooted, and my pc was as good as new!!!

Maybe that will teach you guys to use/download illegal stuff or even to use Windows. I've not had a virus since 2003 (and that was the last time I copied illegal games thank you very much)

if you stick to decent sites its pretty hard to get infected by something nowdays - of course your going to infected visiting sites like keygen.ws and prawn.ws :)

Vundo is a real bugger to get rid off - vundofix works wonders though. I've used it on a few machines at work.

my brother is very stupid when it comes to PC, I get so fustrated when he does stuff like download illegal stuff, without telling me, ESP keygens! I have had so many problems with viruses on this pc, and have had it since last year. LOL will teach my brother a lesson, downloaded Web Security Guard on the pc, addon for Firefox, showing if you are going to dangerous sites or not

If you do want to get illegal stuff safely, your best chance is to go to the torrents. I've only heard about one virus there. Or better still, just buy the friggin stuff.

Although it does sound like you are the one doing the downloading. Or at least that's how it usually goes. "My brother/my friend needs advice"..... usually you.

My roomate clicked on one of those "Your PC is infected, click here to clean" banners. (and the one with boobies lol)
It gave my pc a virus that disabled my AVs from starting and my internet, that was a giant arsepain to remove.

brontok..easy to repair:)

Ya, now it is...This one was an even bigger arsepain to remove because when it 1st came out the AVs could see it but not remove it. I tried so many different things, you have no idea.

HaHa. I get those "virus adverts" with my Linux machine all the time. Then I really laugh because all those "Your Windows machine needs a clean up"... WTF? I am running linux, not Windows!

I agree with you, but I am now using downloadanupload.blogspot.com, irfree.com and dl4all.com to download Software, movies, and games. Torrents are waaay too slow.

I don't download movies or games or proprietary software... it is very well illegal. If I download whatever it is I need, such as a specific distrobution of Linux, I use the torrents. No issue with speed for me.
