Firstly, I pay R249 per month, not R99.R99 a month.
Personally, for that price, you are lucky you are getting SOME programming in COLOUR.
Sound too? Wow....lucky.
Shows from 1998 you say? Incredible....what a bargain!
Firstly, I pay R249 per month, not R99.
And until they opted to repeat their ENTIRE schedule for the last 3 months, it was definitely worth it.
Frankly, for the next 3 months, until the repeated schedule completes, the value for money as opposed to the similarly-priced offer from DSTV is simply non-existent.
Awesome for those who only just got TopTV though so I'm sure they won't be complaining.
Just us early adopters.
Thank you for this. If you go onto their website and check the schedules into September you are in for a surprise. It all looks the same again...TopCrime with all their rubbish shows is starting 18 wheels of Justice, Tropical Heat and Relic Hunter at Season 1 again. FoxFX is looking very similar. TopHistory and TopExplore very little change. TopOne is the only channel with some new content. So by TopTV's argument that because of all the new subscribers it is worth their while to repeat everything. This means in 3 months time when they get another 50 000+ subscribers they will repeat all again...Take a good look above notice the repeats and thats how it has been since May no change and this is only 1 channel
Please excuse my ignorance but I don't fully understand your method of calculation here. To me, it seems your math is wrong. So far they have 4.5 unique shows per day (77 shows /17 days), with the rest filled up with repeats. 4.5 shows a day isn't too bad in my book, especially considering this is a movie channel.
Ah, that makes sense. My bad... 77 UNIQUE shows. I'd assumed that the whole "35 have been repeated twice" section would make it clear enough, but that's probably why I'm a programmer and not a PR person.
There were 214 shows broadcast, of which 77 were unique from the 9th of this month till the 26th. Of course that's not to say that all of those 77 shows were movies, some of them would have been those mind-numbing filler pieces that all Movie channels seem to include at some point. I can post a list of each show, how often it was repeated, and when it was first and last aired in the 17 days.
And darn, just realised that from the 9th to 26th (inclusive) is 18 days not 17. So not only did I communicate badly but I can't count either. So it's really 4.28 unique shows per day. And the most repeated shows (6 repeats) would average out to being shown once every 3 days. (Of course often shows are repeated on the same day, so that's not entirely accurate)
Let me know if you're keen to see the list of shows and their repeats and I can either PM it to you or I can try upload it to a site somewhere and link to it. I can produce similar stats for the rest of their stations (assuming they have published show schedules on the TopTV site).
Great info to have. Thanks so much.Cool, no problem. I currently am doing the evil thing of scraping their "web service" (I use quotes because it's not really a SOAP style web service, but it is kinda a web service)... So I'm just waiting for the "cease and desist" warning. I've tried to limit how often I hit their site to try and make it not invasive (I only run my app once every 2-3 days really hit them once every 10 or so seconds for about 5 minutes). If you can see channel data on their TV Guide, then I'll have the data in my database. Channels like FoxFX unfortunately don't have any data.
Fox Retro had the following stats over the 18 days:
12 shows repeated once
6 shows repeated twice
74 shows repeated 3 times
2 shows repeated 4 times
2 shows repeated 5 times
26 shows repeated 6 times
1 show repeated 8 times
5 shows repeated 9 times
5 shows repeated 12 times
So that's 533 broadcast shows, of which 133 were unique, so that's 133/18 = 7.39 unique shows per day. The 5 shows that were repeated 12 times were 3 different episodes of Buck Rogers, 1 episode of Miami Vice, and 1 episode of The Six Million Dollar Man.
Hope that's enough info?
Guys if any program is repeated more than 3 times per given month and more than 6 times a year is way to much
