Top websites in SA - November 2011 edition

What constitutes a 'unique visitor'? I mean, I access those website from several different platforms from serveral different locations - therefore do I count as 4 or 5 unique visitors?
 
It's a users visit that isn't duplicated. So I can be on the forums all day looking at multiple threads - but I'm counted as 1 unique visitor.

If unique visitor is determined by IP address then each time I go to mybb website CellC will give them a different IP thus inflating the number of 'unique visitor'. Or am I missing something?
 
If I access mybb via Opera Mini or Blackberry, which both use proxy servers located outside the country, does that count as local or international traffic?
 
MyBB site will be higher on International traffic compared to local due to google indexing. Pretty unique crap that forumites post.

If you disconnect and reconnect and CellC assigns you a new IP then yes. However other sites ie. news24 have the same handicap so relatively it evens out.
With ADSL if I disconnect and reconnect I mostly get the same IP.

According to IFABC industry agreed standards the base metric is Unique Browser not visitor because it is measuring devices that access your website. A Unique Browser can be measured using cookie and/or IP + User Agent to distinguish between different devices and if you visit a website from the same device several times the number of Unique Browsers will be deduped.
 
This is why websites should have an independent audit of their numbers to industry standards. These standards ensure internal IP traffic as well as robotic and spider traffic are removed delivering transparent and verified numbers. www.abc.org.uk for more information.

As long as an ad is shown to you they don't care I guess. :)
