To my surprise..........

Hi, Welcome to the Torchlight II Beta Weekend!
The Torchlight II Beta Weekend event starts on Friday, May 18th at 11:00am PDT and lasts until Tuesday, May 22nd at 11:00am PDT. You can start downloading and installing the Torchlight II Beta client now but you will not be able to log in until the start of the Beta Weekend event.
Your key is already linked to your Runic Account. You can access your Runic account at https://secure.runicgames.com. If you have any issues logging in or creating your account, please contact us at [email protected].
Here is your Beta Weekend Key: xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Download the Torchlight II installer at http://download.runicgames.com/installer/tl2.beta.setup.exe
2. Double-click "tl2.beta.setup.exe" to run the installer and follow the onscreen instructions.
3. At the end of the installation process, select "Run Torchlight 2 Beta" and click "Finish".
4. Be sure you are connected to the Internet so the Launcher can download and install the full game client (be patient, this will take a while!)
5. Once that is complete, click the "Play" button on the Launcher
6. Click "Activate" in the next window, enter in the beta key listed above, and click "Submit"
7. The next "Activation Successful!" message confirms that the game is unlocked, click "Play" to join the fun!
Please note the Beta Weekend is restricted to internet only, as such you will not be able to play single player or LAN games. If you have any problems, send us an email at [email protected] to contact support.
There may be a bunch of problems to iron out, and there may be some extended down-times, but that's what this test is all about - making everyone's experience is as easy as possible.
Beta Forum Access:
To provide a place for you to give us feedback, we have created a beta forum. To gain access to the Beta Forums, you will need to create a Forum Account and link it to your Runic account.
1. First, create a Forums Account if you do not have one already. You can sign up at http://forums.runicgames.com - make sure you also follow the activation instructions that will be sent to you via email.
2. Log into your Runic Account (the one you log into the game with) at https://secure.runicgames.com/account/profile and enter your forum username to link your account. The linking process will take a short while, so please be patient.
3. Once you have linked your account, you can access the Beta Forums from the main forums site under Torchlight II section, or via direct link here: http://forums.runicgames.com/viewforum.php?f=38
There is no NDA for this Beta Weekend - we aren't restricting you from sharing information about the test or your experiences with others.
We look forward to playing online with all of you, and are eager to share our labor of love with this tight group of friends, family, and peers!
Thanks and enjoy playing!

How did you get into this? I have the game pre-ordered on Steam, but no beta invite for me...

Torchlight dev's screwed up big time.

The game occupy similar area to Diablo, Yes I know they not the same but most of the people that would love it is in the Diablo camp. They should have released way before Diablo or way after it (Like 6 months +).

Torchlight 2 does not require an always on internet connection. So Diablo3 players who get sick of latency and lag spikes will try out Torchlight 2 and get sucked in. Launching now is a good thing I think. No need to rely on your ISP and Blizzard's servers for smooth gameplay.

Diablo kinda crated the Diablo genre. I have never played a game that fits similarly into the same category other than Torchlight.

Kinda, but not first. I might as well say that diablo is a copy of dnd...

Played a lot of Dungeon crawlers and I would say Torchlight/Diablo fits each other closer than NWN and Diablo does.

Personally I will not run Diablo purely because of the Permanent connection requiremnt. so unless I get some means to pirate it i'll go screw them.

At the same time because I wanna play Torchlight 2 so much and the fact that it will have multiplayer build in I wonder if the Diablo craze will affect the game for me because most of my friends will be playing Diablo 3, and not join me.

Like you've never bought other games?

Blizzard and their DRM/always online thing has unleashed so much nerd rage against D3, that this game very well might be the next big thing since Diablo 2 ;-)

To illustrate how negative people are about Diablo 3 : http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/diablo-iii
(User score of 4 ! and that is from over 3000 users)

Look at the user score there ;) . I've had a few disconnects in D3, and it sure is annoying playing all by yourselves and now having to re-optimize your connection to play...and then it happens in the middle of a boss fight....lots of rage ;)

Anyway, D3 isnt a bad game, although i don't see myself playing it nearly as much as Diablo 2, it's eseentially a streamlined, shorter and simpler Diablo 2.....so if Torchlight 2 remotely adds more depth and innovative features it will rock D3's socks off (D3 doesn't exactly do anything new either).

I must say, i think alot more RPGs can probably have a sigh of relief, i don't think D3 is going to "kill" anything.

I've had no problems with D3, installing, updating, playing, no errors, its all been fine.

I got my torchlight 2 beta key too and maybe will try and play a little but enjoying d3 so far.

Weren't the original diablo 2 Devs the ones behind torchlight in the first place? That and True lan play is enough motivation for me! :D
