Torque vs kW

My diesel > Focus ST (166kw)
My diesel > C30 T5 (169kw)
My diesel > Fiesta ST (112kw)
My diesel > Civic Type R (147kw)
My diesel > Honda S2000 (177kw)
My diesel > Golf 5 GTI (147kw)
My diesel > Golf 4 (GTI 132kw)
My diesel > Polo GTI
My diesel > Polo TDI 96kw
My diesel > Polo TDI 74kw

:D

500 Nm makes for a lot of "schnell".

edit: haven't actually gone up against a Civic type R though... but all the others have ticks next to them.

From what I hear, they're pretty tight with a Golf 5 GTI ... and remember, those are pretty much nothing for a Polo GTI ;)

Polo GTI > Focus ST (166kw)
Polo GTI > C30 T5 (169kw)
Polo GTI > Fiesta ST (112kw)
Polo GTI > Civic Type R (147kw)
Polo GTI > Honda S2000 (177kw)
Polo GTI > Golf 5 GTI (147kw)
Polo GTI > Golf 4 (GTI 132kw)

What can I add? You are aware you're 110kw, right? You're also aware that no test - coast or reef -has not been under 8 seconds ever?

JK8 - you have your figures way, way off. Are you sure anyone has actually been racing you? :/

What diesel is that?

Also, I'd wager a guess that the Focus ST and GTI be very, very close to you up here ...

Okay its not the first time this comes up so, what exactly is the difference between coast and inland.
lets have facts plz:cool:

My internet line is down right now ; posting on a phone ... but when it's up, I'll check.

I'm pretty sure they're behind you - but 0.5 seconds at max?

Let me pull up though :P

+/- 17%, but amount of cylinders and the compression ratio of the engine also comes into play. Ever driven your car after a thunderstorm on a cold night? Its alot more responsive no?

My internet is still down - so I can check things :/ But I see a 330D (steptronic) is just under 6.5 to 100km/h at the coast.

It doesn't lose much up here because it's a turbodiesel ... so 7 or just under?

Conclusion : you are ahead of all the cars listed ;) But I still think you're in within .5 seconds to 100km/h ... and can't tell you what happens thereafter

ya but as we always say ... apples with apples :)

you comparing a 3L turbo diesel against 2.0L and 2.5L :)

thats like me saying ha my 330 is faster then your 325 :P duh

But anyway the new Ford Focus RS will smoke your 330D :)

people forget they compare a turboed diesel to a N/A car although its a lot closer then, its not technically correct.

Am I good, or am I good? ;)

Any 3-litre diesel that cannons to 100km/h in 6.7 seconds up here on the Reef, flattens the quarter mile in 14.5 seconds and exits at 157km/h is, well . . . unheard of.

After 100km/h is where it really starts to perform!
Can keep up with a CLK 55 AMG between 120 and 220.

Petrol engines are high performance compared to diesel, that's why.

True true, is this true for petrol & oil burners aswell:confused:

I like my diesal. Don't feel that pushed into your chair feeling with the petrol cars on acceleration. And for the hills in durbs, is pure pleasure.

It's true for both normally aspirated and force induction engines.
The colder the air the more dense it is which means more air is induced and hence more fuel is added to the combustion process.
Hence the reason for inter-coolers on forced induction engines (although that is primarily to lower the air temperature which has been heated up due to the compression process).

Old but Interesting thread.

I have a 2001 Bmw E46 330i (170kw 300nm )and my friend a 2012 Audi 2.0 Tdi. that is (130kw 350nm).

He keep arguing that he will ace me in a quarter mile because of the audi's torque. I am driving now with X5 19inch wheels which is heavy 16.5 kg without tyres. so i told him to wait till i replace my current wheels with the normal 17's the car came out then we can get a go to see who is the fastest. i am really curious to see if the audi can do it.

what do you guys think.

Nope, he won't have a chance.
