Hey guys, (Yes i know you all hate Mweb, but pls just focus on my question)

Heres, the problem. During peak times i cannot at all download torrents, nothing works, nothing moves. But say from around 9pm it works 100%, normal speeds and everything. That is with my Mweb account.

With my new Afrihost (:D:D:D) account, torrents work all the time..

Is Mweb blocking torrents during the day? This issue has been happening for about a month and bit now. If they are port blocking, is it allowed?

Any help. Thanks.

PS: maybe the Mweb rep can help too, thanks.

They are not supposed to restrict access... you are paying for your service and u should be allowed to use your bandwith in any fashion you choose

Hi

My parents also have Mweb, and I download stuff on their adsl every now and then.

Mweb doesn't block torrents, but i think it has the lowest priority possible. I can torrent in the day, but its agonizingly slow. My parents recently switched to unshaped and torrents in the day now work as after hours :D

As a side note, its not illegal for an ISP to block certain things if its in the T&C i think..

Mweb is not blocking torrents. But you will be lucky to get more than 15kbs on a 4mb line with torrents during peak time! SHAPING! is really bad!

I would suggest you read a certain post regarding Mweb which I am with.My international sucks on Mweb no matter when.I don't use torrents but Mweb has grown far to big and no longer has the infrastructure to carry the number of users.Remember Mweb tried to sell off their Internet connection business.Read post on same forum regarding Fnb connect help required.I have been with Mweb for 12 years and now I have grown tired of their excuses.

Don't take it personally but that's like saying "I had no option for the first 2 years and since then refuse to accept the reality that there are far better options".

Your statement regarding Mweb is not quite on the mark.I had excellent speeds on 56 dial up.Then ISDN which I was one of the first to join.I then went to Ibust which worked well but lent it to a fellow forumite.I went on to asdl only 1 year ago(my daughter using the ADSL connection up to
then).Had no idea that Mweb international was slow until recently I ran tests with a fellow formite who used Fnb connect.I accepted those speeds from Mweb as being the norm.I am not technically minded as far as the Internet is concerned but reading certain posts very recently have changed my mind.

Hi Luf, MWEB does not perform any port/protocol based blocking, however we are bound by our upstream provider's shaping policies (popular protocol prioritisation during peak loads/periods on shaped products).

Will investigate further & revert.

DO people still download torrents... They are banwidth inefficient

I have never had issues with mwebs international speeds, but then again I dont really use my mweb account for major downloading. My speeds for general surfing is fine and I can view youtube smoothly on my 4 MEg line.

Thank you mweb, I understand that shapping does occure and what not but my torrents dont even work during the day. I suppose it isnt the end of the world, was just wondering.

@ the rest, my speeds are perfectly normal offpeak and onpeak. never had an issue with Mweb speeds.
