Torrent speeds on Mweb uncapped terrible

I've noticed with Youtube that it'll stop buffering when you pause it so I cannot pause and leave an HD vid to buffer anymore. :\

Funny enough, some videos will buffer but only to a certain point when using chrome, others dont buffer at all, however firefox seems to be OK

AND

since last night youtube seems to be 10X better, have it set in 360P and the buffer bar is creeping ahead of the progress bar
 
That could be a flashplayer conflict in CHrome. Type :about plugins in search bar and disable the Chrome default flashplayer. You will see two flashplayers enabled if you are using another type of browser as well.
 
Same issue with torrent's on mweb since last week. Maybe even around the same time seacom died. So something is definitely up. Have always been so happy with Mweb, but now something is up.

I can understand shaping and such but a sudden dramatic change like this, may point to either some form of testing on a live system or to network congestion/degrading. Which is bad either way. Any of these, points to overselling of connections and lack of planning and spare capacity.

This entire ordeal paints an unrealistic picture of a service and sets an expected level of service to begin with.

I do hope my service returns to "normal" soon.
 
I'm also having torrent problems. Currently, i have a torrent going which will go up to around 40 kbps and then after about a minute or so it'll drop down to zero and stay like that for a few minutes until it goes back up to 40 again. And the sad thing is that this is actually decent speed. For a while i've been getting a flat zero :( Also considering moving if this doesn't improve soon.

My 1Mbit chugs along to around 385 MB/h on OpenWeb... 50mb/h is just pathetic :wtf:
 
Same here.I`ve had problems with my torrents since mid last week.
They (torrents) are either extremely slow or not running at all.
This is the first week so I have EVER experienced problems like this on my m-web account (been with them for about 6 months now) and I really hope it is not permanent.
 
Also having torrent problems on mweb uncapped premium 2mbps. My daily downloads used to be completed by morning, but now they sometimes run for 3 days instead of just hours. This poor performance started about a week ago. If it's not sorted by end of the month I will be moving to another isp.
 
I sent Mweb Guy a private message regarding my problem and this was his response:

"Torrent speeds are not guaranteed and are given the lowest priority on our network. I suggest, as an alternative, to use news servers. Here is an informative article regarding news servers."

Are they trying to get us to stop using torrents?
I really hope this gets sorted out somehow.
 
Update: just got home, I see almost all my daily downloads and completed, so maybe it's sorted my side now at least. Hope it stays like this again. :cool:
 
I'm quite curious how the 1 meg line is an unthrottled account..? False advertising, I had better speeds a year ago on a 384 line.
 
Getting the same problem with torrents not downloading at all, though nzb`s are going past 1meg speeds on my 1meg unthrottled. Looks like some heavy shaping is going on.
 
So after some monitoring, it would seem that mweb is blocking the trackers, because I am using a list of 12 trackers and this morning they had all timed out. I will be trying a different isp when I get the time to update my router, just to confirm. Reason I say they are blocking the trackers is because since when is it possible that ALL trackers timeout at the same time?? And some guys from other countries tipped me off to their ISP's blocking trackers as a means of shaping/throttling.

I can confirm this. I think I saw it from last week already. Mweb = all trackers time out. Switch to Openweb = all trackers are fine.

Mweb is still by far the best value for money. You have three options rookie: private usenet, torrent-to-http or paying more elsewhere. I download over 400GB every month with download speeds over 400KB/s. Add a Firefox script for Youtube on https and it's a match made in heaven.

I've purposely avoided seedboxes so as not to bypass shaping, so unfortunately if they are going this route then I will change ISP's as not to get permanent banned from the network. My last few months avg is about 200gb on 2mbps premium. Will monitor it for the remainder of this month before jumping ship.

Except you DON'T pay more elsewhere. Everybody and their mom is cheaper than MWEB, and as shown by this thread you pay a premium for an inferior product. I was with MWEB for years but I cancelled my account effective end of this month. Derek Hershaw is leading MWEB to ruin.
 
I have been trying to tell these guys there is a problem for a long time now. A lot of the detail is not even on this thread, sent them many PM's.

They even wanted me to go an test on another uncapped ISP - which i havent got around to doing. But now I guess this confirms it.

Will have to start looking around for another ISP - maybe openweb is the way to go.

On paper yes, but no one else can facilitate full line speed functionality up to 500GB a month for the same or less money.
