fishfly, you already had ftp access on the current system.. so its not anything new but yes you will still be able to access files via FTP

Slimothy.. Any news on server uptime? Will the URL be the same as what you gave us before?
 
im trying to open today so people can get thier stuff before midnight and the address will be www.torrent-box.org, your accounts will be made there too BUT for a few days i'll keep the old subdomain accounts open so you can figure what you wanna keep
 
Slim, the site soesnt seem to be working yet. Thanks for the service... will check it out soon hopefully.

Seriously? I didn't know that :P this is indeed good news... time to "upgrade" :D

oh I'll be removing everything tomorrow so can prepare for the move :D

Hi I have been reading this post with interest and confusion mixed together.

Can someone tell me in plain simple understandable terms on what torrentflux is all about, how does it work, costs, does it use my bandwidth etc

Slimothy is providing numerous information which somehow doens't add up in my head :(

Anyone willing to write down what is it all about for me will be greatly appreciated

Ok simply put Slimothy has a SERVER somewhere, where he's setup the torrentflux (torrent_box account) we upload torrent files there and it leeches/seeds the file for us to that server :D

Then yuo use your home/work/whatever line to download the files to your system.

Easy :D

This ensures that you don't waste countless bandwidth on uploading as well as 3k/s on a iburst line :(

Go back a couple of pages and look for the e-mail the slimothy had on one of his posts and e-mail him. You could try a PM to him but I would suspect the email might get you faster results.
 
Update:

I havent slept trying to get torrent box up, and it looks like it wont be up today.
I have restored your flux accounts, you can all use em till torrent-box is up.

I need to fix a script that manages transfers between the slaves and then its ready, since im not touching it tongith i'll try have it fixed in the morning.

compared to the current system its worth the wait, thanks for your patience
 
Hi Slimothy, Can anyone join?

Do people get to see each other's torrents? It would make sense that you only download stargate atlantis s02e07 once and then everyone leeches from that single file.

We sort of pool our resources, except you own the pool.
 
anybody can join and theres enough reasons to join if you're a torrent user on any connection in SA.

People don't see each others torrents, you see the torrents in your account only, if you make another user in your account you can see thier torrents though.

Also you're right about not wanting to download something twice on the server, it is a waste of time and resources.. which is why I have made a simple mirror system, if you download something the Bencoded torrent checksums are stored in a database if another user downloads something and the checksums match a file already on the server, that just gets copied into your account. If user A runs a torrent and its 50% through downloading then user B starts getting the same torrent then they basically both join in on the download and help get it a little faster and then each get a copy in their account.

I'll try make it at least partially community based just so peopel can share resources and ideas
 
How do you find out if you haven't oversuded your allocated bandwidth or how much of it is left?
 
Also, do I have to cut and paste the torrent links to TorrentFlux?

waht you do is click on the torrent dl the torrent file so it has a extention of .torrent or .tor

then click browse on the main page and upload... easy as pie :D
