Hi there.
Anybody using torrentflux maybe can give a heads up on how the program works or its speeds?

I just came across it this morning in a thread and was really wondering if anyone here has some experience running it.

Yep, can't get it to run....

I also saw that thread, I downloaded it but don't know how to run it...

Please help...

You need a server that can host it. Then its simply a php script that you connect to a sql database. you then let the server do all the downloading, and once the torrent is down you download from the server over http. It gets around the shaping.

oh crud. So its not all i read it to be :(

So let me get this straight.
You run the torrentflux server in a different location(outside sa) then you connect to the and let it download ure torrents for you?

Afterwards you download the torrents through http from ure torrentflux server?

Yup, saves on the upload on the torrents, and the http downloads are quick and unshaped. Normally if you host somewhere in Germany or the US you can get a 4GB file in about an hour or two to the server.

/me cries.
there goes me only chance to get past the awful download irritations i have :(

How do you want to use it armitage?
I have run a local server with torrentflux. Then i just let that machine do all the downloading for me. Then no torrent stuff needed on my desktop that i use all the time

Know any good hosts?

Was hoping to capitalise on usually higher http speeds.

Also i'm limited to downloading in office hours since everyone is home after work and wants to play games meaning uploading and downloading really screws around the pings :(.

was just thinking of a way to speed up my downloading.

Let the server download the stuff internationally(uploads and downloads handled by it and not affecting my bandwidth) Then when it's done i can just download it straight without having to worry about ratio's and uploads

One of my clients is using torrentflux... I'll ask him if he's willing to share his experiences here. (I've never used TorrentFlux myself)

Yeah, the TorrentFlux server works well. I have one that I use in Germany, downloads come down at 441kb per second... around that mark. (To my computer in SA)

Downloads on the torrents itself can be crazy.. current TorrentFlux stats

Server Transfer Stats
Total Transfer: 3,816.92 GB
Month's Transfer: 1,444.63 GB
Week's Transfer: 82.10 GB
Today's Transfer: 362.08 MB

How does a person go about setting something like this up?

You would need to find an overseas hosting compnay that offers:
  1. LOTS of monthly transfer bandwidth
  2. At least 1 MySQL Database
  3. PHP support

Then you download Torrentflux and FTP it onto your hosting server. Follow Torrentflux intructions to set up Database etc.

Log into Torrentflux and upload a torrent for it to download. When its done, you can download it over HTTP

Hey MrG, which host do you use in Germany?

MrG -- if I create an account on my server, would you be prepared to setup a working installation of torrentflux for me?

I've been able to set it up, but I can't get any torrents to start downloading. Would love to see how it works on my server, so that I could possibly offer it as a service...

I couldn't set it up either. You need to open ports as far as I know before you could download, I think it's best to check the torrentflux forum ;)
