I was resigning from my job on Friday morning in my MD's office. While we were discussing the whys and so on, I was explaining that we are emigrating to the UK. Literally as he queried why we wanted to emigrate, the office was hit by loadshedding.

That look on his face ... The change in his expression of his face as his office went dark ...

One could not have scripted that scenario any better!

As an aside, Computek, daytime street lights isn't to stop theft. It's to prolong lighting element life. Thermal cycling is the biggest killer by far. It's not infrequent for the cost of replacement to exceed the cost of electricity.

I disagree.
Sodium vapor lamps and the control gear are pretty tough. As I proved in the lab.
The lamps are controlled remotely.
The control system is antique
They don't have knowledge to fix it
In other places where there is no ripple control they use one photocell for x number of lights to "save money"
The photocells cannot handle the current or the sun and the contacts burn closed

That might be true but it doesn't mean the question shouldn't be asked. Currently everyone has someone else to blame.

Lets get the answers on the way forward without blaming everything from Jan to Eskom and current government.

Stage one load shedding allows for up to 1000MW of the national load to be cut, stage two for up to 2000MW, and stage three for up to 4000MW.
