Anyone year have a Toyota 86 for two+ years?
How is she treating you? I'd like to cop one of these sweethearts 2016

My mate has got one , he treats that thing like a baby and loves it , sweet ride bit under powered .
If that thing had a turbo it would be the bees knees .

Not the fastest by far, but I wouldn't call 147kW on a small 2.0 NA engine 'under powered'. It's pretty decent for what it is and costs.

Toyota 86 bleh.....subaru engine and boxer gearbox. The body looks really cool, but handling has been proven to be very bad. Throw in a 2jz and a full new suspension and it would be the best thing ever.

And what exactly is wrong with a Subaru engine? As for boxer gearbox, WTF are you on about?

The handling is designed to have low grip and slide around so it's fun... You know f-all about this car apparently.

I haven't driven one yet, from the reviews I have seen, I heard it is under powered but it is so fun to drive that you can't really tell, the consensus seems to be that is quite a well balanced car, in terms of price, power handling and looks

^^LOL

I have driven this car, have u? The gearbox is basically a porsche boxster, the engine as well but is build by subaru, nothing wrong with subaru, great cars.

This car is well documented to have its problems, and not so popular handling,my problem with this car was the price tag when it launched. It was R370k when it launched so for a price tag of that caliber one would expect much more than a mediocre engine built by subaru, and more detail to its handling.

I have driven this car and worked on many many cars in my lifetime and changed complete suspensions of cars, i think i might know a thing or two to add value to his thread,so unless u have more knowledge why don't u try and add value to the thread rather.

Eh? :wtf:

WTF are you on about. One of the best handling roadsters in it's class.

Yes my best mate owns the Subaru BRZ, the gearbox is not from a Porsche Boxster or even developed in any way by Porsche:

The 86 features a gearbox developed by Aisin, a specialized Toyota company

You clearly know nothing about this car and the fact it has a boxer ENGINE, not gearbox(whatever the f a boxer gearbox is).... Oh and a Porsche Boxster doesn't have a boxer engine either.

This car was specifically designed to have low grip and lowish power so you can slide it around easily, so it's fun... No it won't go around a track very fast but it'll put a massive smile on your face. It's the entire point of the car. You clearly don't know this or don't understand it or don't like it and that's fine. Just don't come around saying it's a crap car.

And if you don't mind me saying I trust the engineers at Subaru and Toyota a lot more than some random dude on the web claiming he's "worked on many many cars in my lifetime and changed complete suspensions of cars" who gets confused about a boxer engine.

My God, but people can talk cr@p!

One of the finest handling cars on the road.

Engine and gearbox are both Subaru and bullet proof.

I lived with the BRZ as a company car for close on two years - totally stunning car to drive in every respect - as for performance, I cannot get over why everyone finds it obligatory to say that it's under powered, just because it "only" has 147 kw. The power to weight ratio is actually almost identical to a Subaru WRX, and I've never heard one of those called sluggish.

@ OP, if you want one, try and pick up the Subaru BRZ, as it has slightly better handling, as well as a sports exhaust that adds an extra few kw.

The Cretins who say that either car handles badly, a) Don't know how to drive, or b) have never driven one in anger and tried to find the car's limits.........a situation that requires seriously large balls, just for starters.

I definitely don't want Gonzo.B working on my car. :erm:
