I'd take it to a Subaru dealership for the recall, if they're willing. I would hazard a guess that the mechanics at Subaru would be more familiar with the scooby flat four engine than Toyota techs- but this is of course not to say it will definitely be the case.

Makes sense because it's a Subaru engine, but i doubt they will do it for me.

Having worked for both Subaru and Toyota when the BRZ/86 was being sold, I would definitely go to a Subaru dealer over a Toyota one. At one stage the Toyota mechanics were coming to me for advice, which could only be a dangerous state of affairs. One can only hope that the Toyota mechanics have become better in the ensuing time!
