The 86 has a Subaru engine (mostly) and was designed to have low grip.

Ye, it's a great car! But I am not so sure if you want to buy it brand new, the new price point on the 86 is quite jaw dropping, I would spend the time and find a good second hand car in the last model.

I'm not talking about Scott, I'm referring to the man Scott is quoting, go look at his comments you will understand my observation
I've owned one. The current price is insane for it.
I wouldn't say it was designed with low grip...it can grip like snot if driven appropriately.
Rather it was designed with a drift positive weight distribution.
Apparently it sold poorly world wide:

Likely the tick-down in production caused the jump in price. Agree with that article, hell knows why they didn't release a turbo charged version 5 years later.
People are obsessed with power rather than a well handling car so I'm not really surprised.

Everything is relative, right. People were used to turbo charged hatches and then came the 86.
Personally I feel Toyota dropped the ball. Consumers were literally begging for a turbo charged version.
And to paraphrase that article, 5 years later they added 5kw and a new front fender. A real bamboozle right there.
Any Toyota should be adequately equipped to deal with it, I am sure they are all reading through the same recall and repair script. So, i got my 86, today i took my car for a service and notified that there is a recall on the car.
I searched a bit about the recall and found this:

More owners are reporting problems now than during the actual recall period.www.thedrive.com
I was wondering if anyone went through the recall process and can recommend a place that will do it properly.
I know they should be, but according to this article , some dealers overseas caused more damage.Any Toyota should be adequately equipped to deal with it, I am sure they are all reading through the same recall and repair script.
I'd take it to a Subaru dealership for the recall, if they're willing. I would hazard a guess that the mechanics at Subaru would be more familiar with the scooby flat four engine than Toyota techs- but this is of course not to say it will definitely be the case. So, i got my 86, today i took my car for a service and notified that there is a recall on the car.
