Toyota SA upgrades flagship Avanza (and tweaks lower-spec cabins)
Toyota South Africa Motors has upgraded the flagship TX variant in its seven-seater Avanza range, handing the range-topper revised exterior styling.
Interestingly, the lower-spec S and SX grades retain the exterior design and packaging of the outgoing model, although all derivatives now feature push-button (rather than rotary) air-conditioning controls with digital readouts.
In addition, the interior trim has been changed from light grey to dark grey across the range, while front and rear 12-volt points have been fitted as standard.
Right, back to the TX variant. The range-topper gains revised front and rear bumper designs, new LED headlamps, vertically arranged airdams and new foglamp garnish. A body-coloured accent strip now divides each headlamp and creates a border between the chrome upper and black lower-grille sections.
Mechanically, nothing has changed, which means the 1,3-litre models still offer 70 kW and 121 N.m to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox, while the 1,5-litre derivatives generate 77 kW and 137 N.m (with the option of a four-speed automatic transmission on the SX model).
All Avanza variants ship standard with a four-service/60 000 km service plan (with intervals of 12 months or 15 000 km) as well as a three-year/100 000 km warranty. Interestingly, pricing is unchanged.
