Toyota Etios

Made in India :erm:

Personally, I'd go for a used Corolla. Those engines can go up to 450 000 km. Even the Yaris is prone to break down quicker.

I'd imagine the 1.3 Corolla engine is identical to the 1.3 Yaris?

The Yaris and the Corolla have different engines. The Yaris has a more compact unit. Even the pistons are different.

I drove one a while back.
Every piece is as cheaply made as possible, from the door handles to the insulation. The only part that was surprising was the motor which was more powerful than expected. I suspect it's lifted from somewhere else.

Toyota Brazil has shown a facelifted version of the Etios hatchback and sedan. The updated cars will debut in South Africa during 2017, a Toyota South Africa Motors spokesman has confirmed.

As can be seen from these photographs, the Etios' front-end styling has changed significantly and features a new grille with chrome detailing and black inserts. There's a set of new 15-inch alloy wheels that are quite stylish, while some new skirts and a bumper round off the bodywork. The cabin has changed too and features a redesigned steering wheel, an all-black dashboard and a digital instrument cluster that looks similar to that found in the latest generation of Toyota Prius. These are admittedly not major changes, but collectively represent a notable improvement over the outgoing model's interior.

Significant safety changes include ISOfix child seat mounts and a 3-point safety belt for the middle seat passenger. Toyota Brazil claims to have improved the steering, ride quality and soundproofing for the interior. The Brazilian-spec Toyota Etios features a revised version of the 1.5-litre VVT-i engine that produces a bit more power (the current specification motor develops peak outputs of 66 kW and 132 Nm, which are ample for this entry-level vehicle.

Finally the ugly digital clock has been binned and included in the instrument cluster, but f**k me that thing is ugly.
