No, the phone socket is for normal Telkom phone. If you have ADSL modem, you can configure one Ethernet socket on B315 to work as a WAN port and dial ADSL connection from the router.

Wish it was able to handle cron jobs to switch from (WAN) to 3G/LTE...at different times. I need this since am using iBurst(during the day) and Cell C Giganite (at midnight to 6 AM).

Hopefully they release a new firmware or with luck the openwrt firmware surfaces.. The only good thing about this router is it can connect to all SA networks

If you think the router is to blame for the dropped connections, why not get in touch with uniterm. I'm sure they'd be willing to help.

Signal strength measurement was also an issue for me.

Cron: only going to happen with openwrt.
 
Just flashed the new firmware from TP-Link my Cell C connection is stable now.

I signed up for the Telkom Smart Wireless 20GB package and put the sim in the router and it registers on LTE network but my signal is not great since am out of the LTE coverage area per Telkom website. The speed is not bad (around 20 Mbps), I contacted Uniterm for help in signal boosting and was told the router does not have external antenna connection so I need to move it around to find the sweet spot. :cry:

I think the two Antennas at the back is where you would plug in the external Antenna to boost the signal. From the product page "3 Internal Wi-Fi Antennas, 2 Detachable External 4G LTE Antennas"

Can anyone confirm that "2 Detachable External 4G LTE Antennas" can be used for external Antenna signal booster.

Any other longterm thoughts or opinions on this Asus router?

I am currently interested in purchasing this router (TL-MR200 AC750 Wireless Dual Band 4g Lte) for R2489 from Takeakot.

Are there any other similar routers that I should consider?
Are there any issues with this router that I should be aware of?

I got one and it seems pretty solid, once or twice it seemed to lock up and Internet stopped working/wouldn't let me log on but after switching it on/off it was fine again. Otherwise the speeds are good and it's a small unobtrusive router.

The wifi range isn't the hottest though but it's decent enough.

What benefits/extra features does the openwrt firmware have?
My Mr200 seems stable and pretty much flawless, that's using it via lan, wifi off mist of the time

Nothing wrong with stock firmware if you just using the 'internet'.
With OpenWRT I wanted:
1. customized interface
2. bandwidth monitoring/control
3. proper signal stats (even though not yet there, eg RSSI, RSSQ..etc)
4. Overall control and tinkering (hopefully no bricking :p) of router
 
I have picked up something that doesnt make sense to me.
1.Recently had to upgrade to a different service provider as the one I was using lost connectivity in my area... I acquired the MR200 and was told, best LTW is Vodacom as Telkom/Cell-C/MTN signal is poor in my area.
I set the "NAT Forwarding>Vitual services routes....the same as they were on my previous router....
Now that I have upgraded, all my appliances are no longer available via the internet.
I was told to request Unrestricted APN... don...on Monday two weeks ago, received a SMS from Vodacom that my "Commercial APN" application had been approved and that I should have plenty of happy networking...
NOT!!!
Still dont have access to the appliances... therefore can not print from remote, download files or check out other matters on the network...
Appliance firmware has been upgraded... still no access... any Ideas?

As far as I know the Mr200 isn't officially supported by openwrt yet?

Just a heads up on the v1 Mr200, the EU firmware is more recent and it flashes fine on the device, I flashed mine, previously was using the older firmware found at the co.za tplink support site.
