TPLink Time Load Balancing Guide with B315 LTE Routers

My understanding is the load balancer only bonds in that you can create more connections and download from multiple providers. Think of it as hyperthreading\multi core vs single thread core\thread.

That's my understanding and experience with my tp-link load balance router. I do not get better speed with the fastest connection which currently is Vodacom using a B618.

The advantage I found is that a lot of bandwidth is shared among the connections.
 
Hi people, I literally joined mybroadband because of this thread.

I would like some guidance, advice, resources or anything that would help me in achieving my goal, if possible

I have a very similar setup, however, I'm struggling to implement this to my satisfaction. I have been searching high and low for more information, reading articles, watching videos left and right but I'm not wiser and worst of all I'm in the IT field but for some reason, I'm like a guppy in the field.

Devices for the network topology.
2x B618 (Telkom and Cell C)
1x B315 ( Planning to using RAIN, Telkom or Cell C. Very undecied)
1x TP-Link TL-R600vpn
1x MikroTik hAP Lite

At my company, we make use of CHR and some physical MikroTik, however, my knowledge on how to use it is very limited, as I don't work with it often.

The whole idea behind my network is to improve network speed, balance traffic, monitor bandwidth usage of devices on the network, block certain websites, see which sites/IP's certain devices are reaching, user/device/guest management so that I can cap bandwidth when see I that my family members and visitors are abusing the network( mostly my nephews lol) and do port forwarding.

I also have a home server running Proxmox with about 3 running VMs and about 6 stopped VMs that all require OS and software updating, this would be nice to run after 12 and use the midnight data.

As far as the scope of this thread is, I believe @Kosmik wanted to show he connected multiple ISP's using the load balancer. Obviously, there are more technical things that you need help with - I would recommend r/homelab.

Two things to note though; the network speed will only be as fast as the fastest individual ISP speed. You will also need to use a switch if you want to connect PC's, laptops via ethernet.

I haven't had a chance to dig into this properly but keep in mind, the load balancer I mentioned does also bond as well as time allow, so you are not necessity restricted by the single isp's speed. You can also set policies and quotas by client or reservation.
 
Hi @Caliph. Thanks for this. That is exactly how I went and set it up. And it's working, The switch is not really needed at this time as I still have 4 ports available on the MikroTik, all of the devices on the network use WiFi, therefore, the server can use port 2, 3 and 4 on the MikroTik leaving port 5 available for a switch.

Yes @Kosmik, I read the rest of the thread and saw bonding can't be done with the load balancer, however, I have experienced a minor boost in speed but a major improvement on my streaming, VoIP and torrenting.

Thank you for the awesome thread, it was very insightful. I was able to get it to work. Now it just the minor tweaking here and there to reach the goal.

There was a discussion about speed by one of the others. Bonding the connections will give you greater bandwidth but the max speed will be an isps line. So let's say I start a download with 50 segments, the lb may send a segment per link, so if they are 10mb links, each segment is only 10Mbs but combined you are actuality getting 30. Same problem with speed test, it will show a single threads speed, it's not a simple as adding each.
