Tracker vs no Tracker

I also don't want a recovered vehicle back, and I don't care if I need to pay more for insurance, but I don't want to be tracked, and I really don't want my car back. ....Or that was my opinion.

We were hijacked, and I had this stupid Netstar entry level device (for insurance), basically every possible way of communication were taken from us in a couple of seconds.

So I've made a decision, I will be on the higher end product of Tracker, and now I have a panic button.
I've tested the feature a couple of times, and that would've changed our situation allot.

I would get Tracker for help part.

TBH I never considered a tracker for this. On my polo I had one of these units installed too. My only concern though is that these days they remove the tracker so quickly from the vehicle I'm not sure how much use it would be?

Sure you could send the panic signal but once tyre tracker is removed they wouldn't be able to track you ...

True, but in my case they kept us, and were driving to a place were no one could find you, so the panic button wouldve alerted Tracker and then atleast the know we are in trouble, and were the last location was.

They striped us from shoes etc, we had to escape through burnt field to go and looked for help, No one knew something bad happend to us.

my insurance company insisted on a tracking device, went the beame route

Last 2 new cars I got, the bank demanded i got a tracker installed. Was both VWs.

My insurance doesn't seem to mind, they just up the premium. It'll be interesting to see if the bank has anything to say, but why does this bother them?
Because if you're financing through a bank they want to be sure they're not going to lose money

Had a tracker in my car when it got pinched, by the time I realised that the car had been stolen + called the tracking company it had been removed and dumped in a field.

Save your money. It's a headache.

Hi all,

I've just ordered my new car today and was wondering if I should get a tracking device installed or not.

To give some context I previously had a VW polo that was stolen and retrieved twice in 6 months.

...

Any advice and comments would be appreciated.

2016 Fiat 500 (New)

I'll restrict my post to a comment. Advice could come back to byte me

Theft & hijacking risk of the Fiat is chalk and cheese to the Polo. Polo is known to be a high theft risk. For this reason, it is one of the vehicles I would never own, put family in or recommend to another.

If I was going to own a Polo, I would have to factor installing 2 devices into the vehicle. One conventional, GSM and early warning (something which is permanently monitored & they tell me it's being stolen). The other passive (RF) and hidden away in an unconventional part of the vehicle (not behind the dash).

Installing a device to your Fiat (if not a requirement of your insurer) therefore becomes a personal choice. If it is beneficial and saves you premium, then why not. The risk to you is maintaining the contract with whoever installs/monitors the device - or you could find the ins co rejecting a claim if it were stolen. Maintaining the contract is as simple as maintaining the debit order.

insurance companies are always going to look for a reason not to pay out, not fitting a tracking device on a new vehicle is going to be a pretty good reason unless you've double checked the fine print in your contract and have it in writing from them that they're happy that you don't
